1940 Census Map

A map of the Centreville area from the 1940 Census. Interestingly enough it was spelled Centerville that year.

The lack of houses is interesting - all boondocks farm land.

Even fewer houses in this 1915 USGS topo map. It's always interesting to see how current Rt.29 connected through the small village of Centreville back then.

Can ya imagine the amount of work needed to get the data for that terrain map back then?

I totally respect surveyors from the "manual" days.

Very cool but kinda weird that it was spelled both 'Centerville' and 'Centreville' on the first map. I wonder who missed that one. Also I wonder when the spelling was officially changed to 'Centreville'. Certainly a lot of history in our town.
