Looking for Advice

I am looking at houses in the Centreville area and would like some advice from the locals. I have seen houses in London Towne and Heritage Crossing. Can anyone give me some insight about either of these neighborhoods? Good idea? Bad idea?

London Towne is older and tends to be a little shady... I am not familiar with heritage crossing. Another good area tho is Newgate, Clifton Townes, Crofton Commons.

I've lived in Centreville for about 20 years now and I definitely have my opinions about the area. London town is a shithole, full of subsidized housing, lowlife, gangs, drug dealers and a very few decent folk. Heritage Crossing is much nicer but full of foreigners so unless you are a foreigner or don't mind living in a very diverse neighborhood that is where I would choose. Centreville has a great variety of dining establishments and most deliver or are very close by. The schools are very good for the most part. The class of people in general leaves much to be desired, so many rude, inconsiderate, self absorbed yuppola's combined with white trash rednecks makes me want to get out ASAP but there are some (few and far between) really nice decent folk out here too. If I had to move here again I would most likely choose the Clifton or Fairfax area.
My 2 cents

It's interesting how much views can differ between people. I've lived in Cville for seven years, and loved it. The diversity was great, it was finally good to see some non-hillbilly folks around you. I never saw any rednecks, and nobody ever gave me a glare. Sure, things like traffic might be a problem but you just ignore that. I thought a suburb would suck but it's worked out. Never had any noise problems, everyone seemed friendly, and shopping/services were nearby.

In my opinion, these are the kind of towns that the US needs. You go to the majority of other towns, and most are complete fucking shit.
Unfortunatley, I'm moving this summer farther south. I hope to come back one day though.

I've lived in London Towne for many years and really like it. We have a big wooded park (Cub Run Stream Valley Park) with deer and raptors and one of the best displays of bluebells to be seen in the area (around Easter). There are lots of little playgrounds for the kids. As for it being shady, that's not been my experience. The average income is around 85k, there are old houses and new ones, ranging from the 200s to 400s. There is a lot of racial diversity, and it's all been harmonious. Aside from the occasional teen spraypainting something on a sidewalk now and then, I'm not aware of any major crime (well, the Virginia Tech shooter is from here. And the guy that shot up the police station and killed two cops, he's from London Towne too. But those were nutcases and not representative of the neighborhood).

Overall, I think it's a good place to live.

With the high prices, London Town is better than it was - very large towns for the price, but may need work. if you search you can find a mid 90's townhouse for the same price in a nicer neighborhood.
