Make appointments and walk around and talk to the staff. More than anything else, you want to be comfortable leaving your kids there. Several day care centers feel like they're all about making money, not so much caring/nuturing of the kids. Yes it is a business, but I don't want my kid looked at as a revenue source.

As far as safety, VA state government that has a site that lets you view complaints/incidents at all of the licensed day care. All of the local ones are extermely safe, most incindents deal with a kid getting a scrapeed knee or bee sting.

Having said all that, I'm very happy with Sully Station Children's center. Reasonable price, great staff. We feel very comfortable leaving the kid there.

Do you have a specific complaint? We've interacted with several of their staff, and watched them interact with the kids. Not just ours, but all of the kids. They do seem to genuinely care.

Who is the 'they' that you refer to?

Sully is good for older kids, but I wouldn't recommend them for kids under 5. There are 40 4-year olds in the 4 year old room and it is crazy. Even while visiting, with the director and 3 teachers in the room the kids were out of control.

If you're open to a in-home place, look into "Ring Around the Rosie" - she rarely has openings, but has 2 for the fall. http://www.ringaroundrosie.com/

Sully charges a materials fee twice a year costing as much as tuition. Who the heckkkk charges an infant for materials fee? My baby never brought any art work home. I do not recommended Sully either!

Sully charges an arm & leg for child care, as well a material fee twice a year (as the parent above said) and he does not (I repeat DOES NOT!!!!) give his staff any type of benefits. Sully is a horrible place.

Hello all, I agree with the above poster who mentioned Ring Around the Rosie Childcare. My son has only attended Rosie's for the first week, but I wanted to comment on the experience of finding this family day home. It was very tough to find someone willing to accept my special situation since for the next few months I only need care one day a week. Most of the licensed in-home daycares that I searched on the VA social services website were unwilling to work with my schedule. We had been to several other daycares, including several in-homes as well as a La Petite, and I had yet to find what I was looking for. I wanted someone who genuinely cared for their children and obviously had taken a lot of time and care to set up their business, and the places we'd been to just weren't fitting the bill. When we went to interview with Rosie, we knew we had found the right place for our son. She has been in business for over twenty years, has maintained contact with many of her previous children and became involved in their lives personally. The Irons have a very spacious home and offer plenty of room for the children to play on their lower level, which was a problem I had come across with some of the other in-home daycares we looked at - they were in townhomes and simply didn't have enough room for the children to play. It's obvious that Rosie and her husband John offer a lot of love to the kids in their care and that to me is the most important factor. The fact that they developed such close relationships with their past children and continue to do so is what made the decision to go with Rosie's easy for me. She also has sparkling reviews from many parents over the years who rave about her teaching skills and how well their child has developed thanks to Rosie's tutelage and care. I imagine that I too will be writing one of those recommendation letters full of gratitude one day.

Have you looked at the Montessori school near 28/Braddock? It is about the same in cost as the day care centers in the area and we've had a couple kids there with a third starting next year and have been greatly impressed by everything.
