Gun shot noises every Saturday
Posted by: Morelatti ()

I live in Clifton which should be called Centreville. Every Saturday for the last couple months I hear the constant noise of what sounds like guns all afternoon. Is it Civil War re-enactments at Bull Run or just construction? I really have no idea. Does anyone know?

Nah, its just my saturday prayer. It's an ancient language, but to you it sounds like gun shots. I apologize, will bring down the volume next time.

What you are hearing is most likely from the Bull Run Shooting Range. How the sound is carried certainly varies by the atmospheric conditions but the range there is used virtually every weekend - some days you hear it more than others.

Are you serious? There's 2 shooting ranges in Centreville - Bull Run and Izzac Walton (sp?). We've only been hearing gun shots in Centreville for like 20 years.

I hear it's artillery test fire at either Ft. Belvoir or Quantico but that seems too far away.

You're fucking retarded. As mentioned in this thread, there are TWO shooting ranges located IN CENTREVILLE where the OP lives.

The explosions from Quantico are rarely heard in Centreville (and it's always overcast when you can hear it).

Wow, you really are fucking retarded. That is EXACTLY what I said. Read my post again, I said you can RARELY hear the explosions from Quantico, and when you do it's when it is OVERCAST (which is exactly what you just said in your post!).

Its most likely the Izaak Walton range. During warm weather, on the weekends you can hear the target practice, especially from the rifles. If you're in Clifton, I doubt its Quantico you're hearing. That's about 10 miles away, and half Fairfax County would hear it.

Fairfax Rod and Gun Club also has several ranges across Bull Run near Hemlock. You can hear the shooting from Clifton at times.

Fairly regularly guests in my neighborhood believe they are hearing gun fire. In fact my neighbor is always saying its the trap and skeet range at bull run. Sadly they are mistaken. From my local, near centreville bowling alley, there is no way you could here shotguns going off in bull run. What they are hearing is heavy trucks going over the expansion joints on the bridge crossing over 28. It often makes a loud crack and can be heard well past the cvs and in the surrounding area.but anyone whose been around fire arms would know it sounds nothing like gunfire.

We've been living in our house for 18 years, I enjoy hearing the popping of guns at the range.

What you hear is Isaac Walton, which purports to be giving shooting lessons or whatever. They are allowed by law to start shooting at 8 a.m. Saturday and weekdays. If you call to discuss it, they are a--holes. Just leave Centreville ASAP.

Just to let everyone know....if anyone thinks this is from Quantico or Ft Belvoir.....that's simply incorrect. Even with Artillery fire on Quantico, we would not be able to hear it as clear. What everyone hears is the outdoor firing range at the Isaac Walton League right off 28 and Clifton rd. As a 15 year resident and retired Marine, I did my research and went to the location just out of curiosity and sure enough that is the source. They have archery ranges, fishing pond, and a lot of neat training/educational spots. Bull Run of course has the skeet range (12, 20 gauge shotguns only), but the sharpness of firing noise clearly points to a higher muzzle velocity round (i.e., handguns, rifles).

Isaac Walton is used by the Cub Scouts for summer camps. They teach archery, fishing and have other camping activities. I was always told that the gunshots we hear on weekends is from Bull Run. I've been here 15 years and have heard them most every weekend. I'm used to it by now and expect it. Nothing to worry about.
