trying to ditch cable

I am trying to ditch cable, bought an indoor antenna $30 and can get 6-12 stations depending on what direction it is pointed, but none of major networks. Most not in English. Do I need a different antenna, an outdoor antenna, or what???

Did the same thing recently. Bought a fancy/expensive HD and had the same issues. Try plugging your television directly into your original coax outlet. I plugged the coax cable from my wall directly into my television and I get all the major network stations (ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC) and a few more. Needless to say, I returned the antennae for a full refund. Everything else, I stream through my XBox via Hulu, Netflix, ESPN, etc. Cutting cable is the best decision me and my family made in 2013.

I have an 8 foot rooftop VHF/UHF antenna that I installed in my attic over 15 years ago. It is pointed in the general direction of DC. I can get all of the local broadcast stations in HDTV using that antenna.

Sometimes size does matter.

Get a higher quality antenna. They seem to make all the difference.
