Verizon is tearing up my neighborhood!

I woke up this morning to lots of day laborers in little orange vests swarming all over my neighborhood. They've been at work the entire day laying line.. there have to be 200 of them just on the northern stretch of Point Pleasant road in Poplar Tree Estates.

We got about.. 1 days warnings that this was going to happen! Yikes!

Wow. Sounds like you're getting fiber.
Are you sure it's verizon?
Cox did the same thing to my neighborhood last summer and put in little curbside "broadband" boxes in front of every house instead of having a big green cable box thing in every 12th yard or so.

Quick note about fiber that is really pissing off my CEO (i work at an isp), once you get fiber you can't go back and get DSL ever again. They cut your copper pair and you only have the fiber drop into your household. Doesn't sound like a huge deal but consider you might only be able to use verizon's internet service over your phone lines from there on out.

So do they pull the fiber from underground or do they have to FuX0r your yard to get the fiber to the house?

fux0r your yard. bad.
when they do the neighborhood thing they're just bringing it to that little county strip. but to actually bring it all the way up to your house they have to dig a trench.

The trucks all had little "A Verizon Contractor" sign on the side. They basically did the entire neighborhood in 2 days.. they're still doing some fix up work, but they bulk of it was done two days ago.

And yes, they tore up the yards something wicked. But they sodded after they left, so now there's just huge lumps where they had been digging because the dirt hasn't settled..

The reason I'd go with DSL is that my "up to 5" mbps connection tests out at 3 mbps on its best day, usually closer to 2. I'd rather pay half as much and just be at 1.5. Then again upspeed is pretty good at around 1.5 so I don't piss off online gaming people for lagging.

Ive finally got the "fios" service at my house, and I love it. Extremely fast connection speeds, no down time, and fairly quick install and setup when the techs came out. BTW, there really isnt a trench thats dug in your yard...they use a flat fiber cable thats practically tucked underground from the box to your house. My yard dosent look too bad...just a thin line (bout 2-4 inches) wide from the street to the house.

I agree, I've seen tons of fios installs and they never look as bad outside as people led me to believe they were going to.

Probably S&N Contracting who Verizon sources for their DSL lines. They did an awful job replacing the sod in my backyard after digging. It's a good thing I didn't have my concrete patio poured yet. -§
