Virginia has a Democratic Governor and Democratic Senator and is about to have another Democratic Senator. Obama crushed Hillary in VA and is within 1 percentage point of beating McCain in the state now. Between NOVA and the African-Americans in Richmond and Norfolk, Obama has a pretty good shot of winning the state.

Even if he does win, which is a very good chance the question is can he undo the damage done in the last 8 years? Can he get this nation out of the economic rut? Can he really change this nation for the better? Or do we elect him solely because we've had it with Republicans ruining the country then end up with another Jimmy Carter who just makes it worse?

Obama is a closet Marxist. Black Liberation Theology like he listened to from Reverned Wright for 20 years is a vile hate filled combination of Marxist collectivism and a weak reference to christianity (The USSR failed because they couldn't shut down religious belief--that gave the people hope and a place to fight the commies). You think the economy is rough now? Wait until he starts taxing businesses until they have to reduce payroll--ignorant and unskilled go first baby. In Obamunism we'll get the worst corrupt Chicago politics aligned with the America haters of the hard left (Michelle has never been proud of America).

You are the fool, tool:

Pope Paul, along with Reagan is credited with bringing about the fall of Communism in Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union.
Karl Marx disparaged religion as the opiate of the masses, but failed, like you, to understand that collectivism fails when challenged by a belief in individual responsibility before God on judgment day. Collectivism and centralized control could not withstand true hope for change (as opposed to B. Hussein Obama's empty rhetoric). Pope Paul by his encouragement of Solidarity in Poland (Lech Walensa--a good Catholic) and many other freedom seekers behind the Iron Curtain, helped break apart the Warsaw Pact and encourage individual free thought and a desire for self determination. This in turn helped bring about the fall of the Berlin Wall, break-up of Yugoslavia and collapse of the Reds in Moscow.

Okay, schools out now....

Thanks for your little one-sided history lesson.

The funny part is: the Soviet Union collapsed because their economy was tanking and they were caught up in a very unpopular, and unwinnable, war.

Does that sound familar??

So believe whatever crackpot horseshit you want about religion causing their downfall- you people are fucking stupider than I ever imagined

Why it is that the Obama freaks that this some how makes me a racist I dont know. Are they sexists or agists because they are not for Hillary or McCain? THey play the race card more often than the posters on that redistricting thread do. YAWN.

There is a huge downside for women who are Democrats voting for McCain. First, the Bush-appointed Supreme Court has already demonstrated a bias against women seeking relief for discrimination in the workplace. Imagine if one or two more Scalia-like Justices are appointed under McCain? And just imagine what will happen to Roe v. Wade.

Do you have children or grandchildren that are draft age? McCain has given every indication that he will continue to effort in Iraq and will most likely expand it into Iran. We do not have the armed forces to do it. In that case, a draft will need to be considered.

Finally, while Hillary isn't the nominee, her legacy could be to set the stage for a future woman President. If Hillary's supporters fracture the party and cause the Democrats to lose the election, it will become even harder for a woman to be considered for the nomination because of the ill will created this time around.

Remember, “Before you embark on a journey of revenge, dig two graves.”

It is totally illogical to jump from Hillary to McSame. I'd like to know one issue that Hillary supported that you can then apply to McSame? Hillary supporters need to get over the fact that the nomination was hers to loose...and that's exactly what she did. It wasnt sexism that cost her the nomination it was poor planning. So..get up off the floor and doi the right thing...vote for Obama.

Meeper - let's be fair and balanced. Yes, no doubt the Soviet Union collapsed in large part because like all state controlled systems, its burdens became too great and it collapsed on itself. And they were stuck in unpopular and un-winnable war - out culture and system of government could sustain that event - the Soviets could not. But given the vast degree of state control the Soviets exercised over their people and those in its satellite states (Poland included, where the Pope's influence became enormous), culture (including the views espoused by Reagan) and religion undoubtedly played a role in motivating people to change their circumstance. Ironically, through the lens of history both Reagan and Gorbachev will be viewed kindly. Reagan for taking a stance for democratic government (whatever his flaws, he was consistent on this issue), and Gorbachev, for not acting like Stalin or the Tsars when the tide was changing and refusing to kill or imprison millions of people to continue to exert state control as was done in both the Soviet and Tsarist systems. This doesn't mean that there were not in many respects flawed men - they were - but the tearing down of the Berlin Wall was hugely symbolic and significant and the men who played key roles in that will be viewed in the end very favorably.

Obama is incredibly naive on foreign policy, and would do well to examine what the best foreign policy presidents - FDR, Nixon and Reagan - did. All accomplished what they did through some showing of strength.

quantum,

A good friend of mine is from East Germany. She grew up there and was in high school when the wall came down, and is therefore old enough to remember. She and her family *laugh* when it comes to the exaggerated american perception of Reagan's role during the fall of communism. They seriously think it's a joke. To them, he's just some dumb cowboy that hogged the spotlight with alot of rhetoric. Sure, he was around to support them, and they appreciate that, but they think it's silly the way our media gives him so much credit. This is a conversation topic that comes up every time her family comes over here to visit. So, to be fair and balanced, it's safe to say that the people who lived there under communist rule feel alot differently about the common view taught here in the US.

As far as the original topic, it is just flat out wrong to say that the Soviet Union collapsed as a result of religion.

Gorbachev and Reagan didn't tear down the wall. The German people did. And it didn't even happen on Reagan's watch.

Most people agree that regardless of Reagan's foreign policy, the Soviet Union would have failed. Either in 1991 or in 1996. The Soviet system was deeply flawed.

I'm not sure what weakness Obama is demonstrating? A willingness to negotiate? You mean, like FDR did with Stalin? Or Reagan did with Gorbachev? Or Nixon did with Godless, communist China?

We had a similar problem in the 1960's and 1970's, and instead of the US collapsing, we developed the personal computer and bigger bombs.

Meep, are you saying the US is going to collpase? Should I be laying in a 2 year supply of fuel, ammuniton, water, food, and duct tape/plastic sheeting? And a bomb shelter in the backyard?

We didn't have the kind of national debt then that we do now.

I don't know if the U.S. is going to "collapse." But we are certainly at risk of losing our position as the world's only Super Power if we squander our time and treasure on Iraq while China and Russia become stronger and more belligerent.

It's like the scene in Lost World. We are busy worrying about a fucking snake while a T-Rex is standing outside the cave ready to bite our heads off.

Listen, buddy, the last time my bitch and I visited the Queen of England, we dressed up - Michele wore a 7 thousand dollar blouse, which accented her full breasts nicely, AND, we didn't give the queen an iPod which couldn't work in England, AND, we didn't bow or curtsy or touch her inappropriately.

Like Chavez, I am a visionary and I know what's best for my country. death becomes me will be neutered. My czars and I will be the only niggers closing down forums....
