Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication among residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.
While in the check out line of the grocery store last night I saw in the magazine display a book titled "The Idiot's Guide to NASCAR." I laughed out loud; Do you think the title is suitable, describing NASCAR fans, or, do you believe the publisher wanted the title to be a somewhat "medium"-brow joke?
I will admit, the racing and entire sport has lacked severly in terms of pure 'entertainment' lately. Gone are the epic 80s and 90s in which there were so many classic and awesome races. The drivers have changed, the cars have changed, we've gotten 'new age' fans, the sport has been basically COMMERICALIZED for the worse. It's shit basically in my opinion, and I have been a fan since 1998. I hope they make some changes, I don't know where NASCAR is headed. I know of several peers who have quit watching, I always have hope but might soon stop as well. They are losing the loyal fans of yesteryear and getting what? Fucking shit is what they are getting. Thankfully there are several other domestic and foreign racing series to complete my fix. One that still have can be defined by what REAL RACING IS, and not some fucking 3 hour pre-race show with single file racing, boring commentators, ads every 10 laps, and a shit winner.

FYI, NASCAR is "staged,' like pro wrestling. If you don't believe me then ask yourself why you pay an entertainment tax on a NASCAR ticket and not the higher sports event tax.
You see, the people above are too fucking rigid to accept it's a real sport. You know what, you're right it's not a sport. For a lot of people it's a way of life. They spend the entire week getting ready for a race. Not just with NASCAR, but all over the world it goes way beyond just be a spectator sport.
496, yeah I bet football is more fun huh? fucking gay guys slapping each other asses and trying to go after a fucking ball. WOW so exciting, I can barely sit through five minutes of that shit on TV, god damn. Most stick and ball sports are like this, I just don't get the appeal. And another thing, how many fucking gayballers have died from the sport? Oh no I fractured my ankle!!!! How about being burned to death while stuck inside the cockpit, or breaking your neck. NASCAR has improved quite a bit in safety, but you should see some of the other racing series; like rally where it is still somewhat common to see drivers and spectators die due to how dangerous that kind of racing is.
WashingToneLocian, what you say is true to an extent. It all comes down to the last lap. Now as I mentioned in my first post, I just don't get the 'drive' from it I used to. This upcoming weekend will feature the LONGEST race of the season, 600 miles. Yes, the majority of the race will be dull, and you won't see much action. But really it depends on track, and a few external factors. Not every race can be action packed every lap, those races come once in a blue moon.

Earnest committed suicide. probably when he realized that he was too fat to fit in a race car, to drunk to fight bulls and too old to climb mountains.

Actually, those are exactly the reasons he gave for killing himself in his suicide note.
nascar is a boring sport anyway. People just want to see the wipeouts and crashes. So why not just cut to the chase and have a big dirt track and have them pull a crash derby.
