I was being conservative. Some say as much as 1 in 20. It's hard to get a real percentage because of the social stigma involved. Iran claims to have no homosexuals.

One in a hundred is a very conservative number. Most sexual surveys put the percentage at 2-3%. The reason why it seems more prevalent now is that it is slightly more acceptable. In the old days it was the "funny uncle" or the "sister who never got married."
