John McCain receives over $50,000 tax free military disability pension.

Since this money comes from the Dept of Defense budget, that money could better be spent fighting terrorists or supporting our troops unless he is truly diabled and has trouble supporting himself and his family.

Also, how will his disability effect his possible Presidential term?

Are you kiddding me? The guy was a POW. I know tons of retired Navy buddies who milk the system for disability and have far less "issues".

It's not hard to get it if you get the problem documented and go to about 1000000000000 VA appointments.

McCain is a flip flopper - he tells us he fit as a fiddle and hikes the Grand Canyon. Then he tells the military pension people something else. Which McCain should I vote for?

No, what I meant was that I know of people who weren't starved, beaten, etc, and are getting disability. If people who have headaches after getting out of the Navy can get at least partial disability, I'm not so inclined to nitpick someone who was a former POW.

Think of it this way, if I'm released from a POW camp during a war, I rather go home and apply for the disability, even if I feel fine, then to discover the effects of it later down the road and now possibly not have any recourse for it.

I have no problem with McCain getting disability. I mean, his arms are f-d up from the crash and the beatings. I do wonder, however, if he should still qualify for disability given that he has been working? I mean, SSDI they come after your ass if you are working. Hmmm.

You have to understand the nature of the disability benifit. He doesnt get any additional money other then the retirement annuity he earned. The disability benifit determines how much of that retirement annuity is tax free. The original poster says $50k....could be correct...but he doesnt get an additional $50k over his retirement annuity....$50k of his retirment annuity is tax free.

He also gets retirement from the navy too should he give that up? He can't lift one of his arms above his shoulders because of what was done to him as a pow.

It's about time somebody pointed this out.

The man earned his fucking pension. If you don't like it, go into civil service or the military for twenty years and get one yourself.

I agree...it's a non-issue. McSame earned his retirement annuity of which a portion is tax free because of his disability. There is no taking away from him his military record.

The pension is actualy $58000 a year tax free. And is is a DISABILITY pension.

where are you reading about this? Are you saying he is getting this money above and beyond his retirement annuity?

never mind..I think I found the source of your facts...and it says what I have been saying....McSame's retirment annuity is 100% exempt from federal taxes.

Guilt by association. Obama never said those things about 9/11, he was never a member of the Weather Underground and he hasn't been charged with anything associated with Rezko.
