BB&T charges to cash their own check?

What the hell, BB&T charges to cash their own checks? Not accepting BB&T checks anymore. That's some highway robbery.

Do you have an account with BB&T? If you do, then this is robbery. If you don't then this is pretty much standard for most banks, isn't it?

Standard my ass, if the account is with them they should honor their checks.

It's because they've been robbed so many times, they need to recoup that missing cash somehow.

I cash expense report reimbursement checks at the issuing bank (United Bank) for free still to this day.

I can count on zero fingers the number of people I know that use United Bank, which is probably why they won't nickle and dime people...they're so small that they can't afford to alienate customers with fees.

That's fine, I prefer to give my business to the small guy who still appreciates me than the large one who wants to treat me like a sheep.

Please name the top five banks in our area with little to no fees.

Thanks.

Good luck with that. It won't be long before they're swallowed up like the others have been.

The feds changed the rules to where it was hard for banks to add fees to deadbeats with overdrawn checks. So the banks have to go after the ones that dont spend more than they take in. Same thing with mortgages. You get nothing for paying on time but sit back and let the foreclosure start and Uncle Sam will be there with a helping hand.

Uncle Sam should have let all the corps and banks die. Out with the old who's business plans failed, and in with the new. Instead we're stuck with the same old jaded pigs.

So deposit it at your own bank, problem solved. Yes, banks have been charging those fees for non-customers for a while.

Why would you want to walk into a BB&T bank anyway? Their opposition to legal carry in their banks makes them a target for robberies.

BB&T is the worst bank I have ever had to to deal with. Needless to say I don't deal with them anymore!!!

United has been nothing but a treat to deal with both commercially and personally.

Even with a high balance they still try and add on fees.

Since I have both my business and personal accounts with the same bank you think they would treat me better.

Lazy people are so entertaining. They don't have you by the balls at all, change banks if you don't like how you are treated and the charges you face. The only person preventing action is YOU, so in a sense you have yourself by your own balls.

Hardly, although you no doubt enjoyed saying that.

The OP had a check from another bank that he wanted to cash there rather than taking it to his own bank. Why? Perhaps the guy who wrote it is something of a deadbeat and he didn't want to get stuck with a bounced check fee if it didn't clear. Perhaps it was a matter of convenience of the moment. Perhaps it was for a rush job and he didn't want to take the chance that the guy would stop payment once the services were performed. Maybe he's just trying to cheat on his taxes or launder money. Who knows. In any event the OP could not control what bank the guy who gave him the check banks at. All he could control is which bank he takes it to.

@Novafan-I agree. We dumped them probably 5 years ago because they kept changing business checking plans.

I have switched banks. I own my own company so it is not so easy to just switch banks at the drop of a hat.

I guess you work for someone else?

Now I work hard for MY money. I look at everything on my statements. You are rude.

Bye asshole!

Why is that the check recipient's problem? The fee doesn't go to the recipient, it goes to the writer.

All reasons I agree with, which is why I said take it to his own bank to avoid the fee. If there are reasons he didn't post that outweigh the pain of the fee then by all means pay the fee, I care not.

Bye, sorry the suggestion that you switch to a bank that you like better was so offensive. Who said you weren't looking at your statements? You are easily offended and make stuff up, I feel sorry for you.

The bank where the check is deposited will charge the depositer a fee for the returned check and the bank that the check was drawn on will charge the check writer a fee.

Well if you agree with those reasons then you would understand why he'd take it to the check writer's bank, wouldn't you.

I was with Bank of America they suck! Have an account with M&T that I am going to close now because they want $10 if you don't have an account. 3 years ago I opened up a burke and herbert account. They are awesome! Friendly, answer the phone, no large fees because they have an A+ credit rating so they don't need my money. I was going to be overdrawn once and they called to tell me. I couldn't get there until the next day the manager said don't worry we will pay it and there's no charge this is just a courtesy call. They will be my only account in addition to my credit union.

And you're going to get asked to either remove the hood and sunglasses or leave. I guarantee it.

Thank god for the new Fed banking law prevents banks from slapping on charges without notifying the customer first.

I looked at my account three years and there all sort of mystery charges. I called the bank and was told their policies had changed and that those were valid new charges. Total fucking bullshit!

I can't believe it took an act of Congress to stop that shit!

Well, that was a facetious statement, obviously. For chuckhoffman to go into a bank would require that he had business in a bank, such as a check to cash or money to deposit into an account.

Since he has neither pot nor window, I don't think he'll be going into any banks any time soon.

Problem with credit unions is you have to be one included in their permissible domain--ie, Police/fireman, teacher, govt employee, or military or they won't let you be a member. Have not found a credit union "for the rest of us" yet to join!
