So I am generally a light sleeper. I wake up often throughout the night due to a noise or whatever. This morning at 5 am I hear very faint whimpers and smell shit. I thought maybe my daughter who sleeps in the bedroom with Mrs. Strife and I took a dump but the whimpering didn't fit that scenario so I got up. I went to the dog crate and turned the light on and sure enough, there is Puppy Strife (who is less of a puppy and more like a man-bear-dog hybrid) standing on 3 legs in his crate surrounded by logs, piles and puddles. I picked him up and carried him to the tub for a bath. Once I dried him off and brought him back out so I could get started on his crate he decided to piss and liquid shart up and down the hallway by the kitchen/front door. At this point Mrs. Strife has gotten up and asked why the house smells like shit and starts scrubbing the carpets where the piss/shart mix was laid down while I clean the crate. Puppy Strife was tied off to the door knob where he could piss and shit to his heart's content on the tile. I love the boy, but jesus fucking christ he crates some horrible goddamn messes. Any other FFU pets giving you guys shit?

No really pets in the classic sense, but the two elderly people I have locked in the basement beg and moan all night long. If it wasn't for their social security checks that I cash every month, I would have put them out of their misery a long time ago.

If he's in the crate and still shit himself, good chance there was a stomach issue and its Puppy Strife's fault. Dogs DO NOT like sitting in their own shit. If your dog consistently shits in his crate, then the crate is to large.

Dogs are only to eat 10% human food.
Do not feed him oily italian foods.
Do not feed him oinions or grapes and or sausages or anything with spice.

You can feed it cooked chicken skin but not hot!
Do not feed him certian greens like aspargus.


Seems like you really are setting up the dog to die young.

i always come really close to giving in to the pleas of my children to get a dog and then i hear a story like this. i think it actually has sealed my children's fate to not be dog owners.

You can reduce the space in your crate with cardboard boxes.

Treats can cause shitting issues. Dogs dont need treats, to many dogs are fat. Suck it up and buy a higher quality dog food. That will save you vet and clean up bills in the future.

Sometimes a chicken and rice, or lamb and rice food will make all te difference.

However, it's very important That you maintain consistency in your puppy's diet. Never switch foods all at once, gradually mix in a new food over a weeks time.

Also, it's not necessary to keep the crate in your room. I like the crate in a downstairs room so I don't hear the whining. If you respond to a dogs cries they learn to cry to get your attention. If you ignore them, they learn to sleep through the night.

My almost 4 year old was in his room asleep, but he woke up at about 5:30 because the lights were on. My almost 2 year old daughter was in the room with us since she doesn't sleep through the night yet. Not that it is any of your business...

Also, @Hay Zeus - he has only shit in his crate twice now. Once when he was only weeks old and this time when the bastard ate socks. He has a regular diet of puppy food otherwise and has zero human food.

The crate size is only an issue because it may be too small. Like I said, he is a man-bear-dog. Not a small dog at all. He is about 9 months old now and 9 month old chocolate labs aren't exactly lap dogs.

@eesh - they caught your 3 friends in NY. What percentage of your pet's diet is human food?

@Atom - Crate is actually in the living room but the smell of shit found its way into my room (door was open).

It's just odd because he hasn't shown any signs of having worms. His shit has been regular, no stringy little crawlers hanging from his balloon knot, no butt-dragging around the house, hasn't been any more or less hungry than usual.. We gave him the meds as a preventative measure as part of his puppy medical regiment.

What, no cat stories? I have a male cat that has sprayed in every room of the house. Tried Feliway, making the little bugger feel "wanted", limiting his time indoors, and so forth. I just personally ripped up about 350 feet of carpet in a room that he didn't seem to target much...and found cat pee everywhere.

By the way, I've tried every enzyme formula out there to neutralize cat pee, but the best product is one you can make yourself using baking soda and hydrogen peroxide (you can find the "recipe" online). The stuff really works...and least until the next time the cat sprays.

Cat stories - When Ex-Mrs. Strife was still living with me I adopted two male kittens from the air field where I was stationed. They were living in a pile of wood. I got them fixed and raised them, but Ex-Mrs. Strife never really took to them. When she left she took our two dogs and left me the cats (yay...). She left a bunch of her clothes behind initially and the cats found their way to her favorite pair of shoes and used them as a litter box. A month or so later she asked for me to bring the shoes to her the next time I visited the NOVA area. I brought them to her in as-is condition tied up in a plastic bag. :D

Anyway, that's what my Daddy always said, and I never knew himt to be wrong about nothing.

I guess this is a result of all the above;medication ,eating socks,chewy toy and possibly dog food on top of all that .I'm pretty certain he will be ok. Try not to give him much food rest of the day lots of liquids, you know the drill. If he doesn't get better just take him to the vet. But I am pretty certain it is nothing serious.

I miss my dog, but do NOT miss the pissing and the shitting. My lawn is finally free of land mines and dead patches.

It's a shame our cat is only 4 years old. Got a least a decade more with that stupid thing.

Good point. When my dogs get stomach sick like that where they are having bad dumps, we would make a simple cooked rice and cooked ground beef (get rid of the grease) mixture to feed them. Pretty simple to prep and store in the fridge, and easy to serve.
