Another Individual Will Be Put To Death on Wednesday

We all saw how the other thread collected many varying opinions on whether an individual should be put to death under the death penalty. This guy is up for execution on Wednesday (today) for dragging a black man to his death 13 years ago.
(CNN) -- One of three men convicted for his involvement in the infamous dragging death of a black man 13 years ago is scheduled to be executed Wednesday.
Lawrence Russell Brewer, 44, is scheduled to die by lethal injection in the killing of James Byrd.
Brewer and two other white men chained the 49-year-old black man to the back of a pickup truck and dragged him to death on a country road near Jasper, Texas.
Accomplice John William King also was sentenced to death and is awaiting an appeal. A third man, Shawn Berry, received life in prison.

A prosecutor called Brewer a racist psychopath during his 1999 trial.
During the trial, Brewer took the witness stand and contended that he was a bystander, not a killer.

Brewer, a former jailhouse Ku Klux Klan leader, said King initiated the killing by fighting with Byrd. He also said the third defendant, Berry, slashed Byrd's throat and then chained him to Berry's pickup. Brewer admitted kicking Byrd and spraying Byrd's face with black paint.
But he said it was a reflex action taken to try to break up the fight between Byrd and King.

If you live long enough you will die and we all will die (execution, natural cause, car accident, metorite, walking down the street, etc, etc, etc etc). He going to die for dragstering with a negro.....so be it. So what difference do it make when or how you die???? bottomline you can't take anything with you and you are not in control when even if you kill yourself. Get ready Repent you damn sinners.

Why can it not just be dragging "a man" to his death? I know they were/are racist, but there is no need to add "black" into the equation.
If someone drags another human behind a truck until they die, then it does not matter if they are fucking green...all adding "black" to the description does is make racist black people more angry and allow racist white people to celebrate.
A great way, IMO, to decrease some of the racist fuel is to report everything with NO race/ethnicity included.
An example:
John Ware, a 23 year old Hispanic male, stabbed a 35 year old white woman to death Thursday...
...should be...

Think of the hundreds / thousands, of articles printed, or published on the Web', that include the race of whomever is in the news for whatever reason (Not just crime) --- just drop the ethnic part and you have so many people NOT able to tag the event with the race.
If an article is pointing out that Chris Sampson stopped a robbery by Keith Brooks at a KFC in SE DC on September 21st --- then there is only speculation on the races involved, AND, it will be very telling to those who ASSUME that Chris is white, while Keith is black / hispanic etc...
Basic idea is to take some of the fuel out of the fire...and just report PEOPLE doing whatever the fuck it is that happened --- drop the fucking LABELS!
I can already hear the replies..."But, those guys killed that man because he was black, they are racist." --- I know they are racist, but why give them CREDIT towards their goals? To point out that this is a crime of racism just serves the purpose desired by those who committed the crime. Think of how the racist white guys would feel if it were never mentioned that the person they killed was black - most likely they would be pissed and feel that their actions had less value if it is not noted that the dead person was black + the hate derived by blacks that a person was killed by whites would be diminished by NOT including the races of those involved.
Am I wrong in thinking that the media adds to the already existing racist battles by ALWAYS making sure to include the ethnicity of people involved in events? Am I wrong to think it is NOT a special occasion when a black / latino / minority person graduated from ABC University, and it is just an average event at this time in history? Do minorities not feel belittled when everyone goes ape-shit if one of them does ANYTHING of note, like they are reaching way beyond what is expected of their lower status?
I am aware of the challenges of minorities in the USA, and how the majority has been dicks to them in the past, but why accentuate that every chance we get? Also, why should there be so many "free passes" due to the trials of the people BEFORE the generations of today?

You make an excellent point and I agree with you, mostly. In the dragging case, he was dragged to his death BECAUSE he was black. Not just for the hell of it. Not because he did anything in particular, JUST because he was black. In cases like this, reporting race is an important part of the case and punishments are usually greater in hate crimes as well.
Your example of the hispanic man knifing a white woman is a great example of where race need not be mentioned. Unless further evidence determines the cause of the crime was based on race. The media sensationalizes everything now. This is one example. It's part of the reason the broadcast stations are losing viewers, yet they keep going farther and farther down the sensationalist path.

You make an excellent point and I agree with you, mostly. In the dragging case, he was dragged to his death BECAUSE he was black. Not just for the hell of it. Not because he did anything in particular, JUST because he was black. In cases like this, reporting race is an important part of the case and punishments are usually greater in hate crimes as well.
