Rise of the Planet of the Apes

What a stupid fucking movie. Cheesy digital monkeys, dumb comic relief, and family friendly atmosphere made this movie worthless. Nothing as good as the first Planet of the Apes.

Digital effects have their place but not in character modes. The same thing with the movie "I am Legion", that had cheesy digital mutants.

Some Spanish Duchess or other is giving away all her money to her kids so she can marry a man 24 years younger than she is.

Not trying to hijack this thread, but look at her photo (beware of photo number 7).

I wonder if the marriage will take place after she gives away the money.

Yep. Despite its flaws, there really is nothing better than the original. Rod Sterling really did come up with one hell of an ending.

anyone going to see the new Planet of the Apes movie? I think the monkeys look too cartoony. Why couldn't they use real monkeys?

Did you know the guy who wrote the novel Planet of the Apes is based on also wrote The Bridge on the River Kwai? Great movie. You got your William Holden. You got your Alec Guinness. You got your David Lean. What more do you need? Go out and rent it on VHS. Make it a Blockbuster night.

The guys who lived through the actual Kwai incident hated the movie. They were beaten and tortured into making the bridge and no commander enthusiastically supported the project, as portrayed in the movie.

but it was so good when Alec Guinness saw the train coming and said, "my god, what have I done?" That's drama. It's a great story. Though I could've done without a lot of the stuff with William Holden and the other American soldiers in the middle, and his completely unnecessary love interest.

by the way.....how bout that hoocoodanode? Way to hijack a thread, honey......jeez........you know what I'm talking about, WTL.....

That movie was as inaccurate as "Hogan's Heros", the Japs would not put up with nonsense from prisoners, they would chop off your head with a sword or bayonet you, they seldom wasted bullets on POWs. If the POWs ever tried that nonsense, they would pull out a couple of victims in front of the others, and swip off the heads. That would motivate the prisoners more then words.

yeah, but it was a good movie, tho. You can't deny that. It's a great movie, in fact.

When the Japs did that shit, it was "evil". When we do it, it's an episode of 24.

What ever happened to being original in Hollywood? Every new movie that comes out now is either a shitty sequel or based on a recent book. zzzzzz...........

The movie business is afraid to take a risk. They think that rehashing something that was already successful is a better bet than trying something untested.

Studios regularly throw $150 mil at producing a movie. It is a business decision, not a creative one, to try to capitalize on established brands like Planet of the Apes or a best selling chick novel like Eat. Pray. Love.

I realize that it's all about the market but really innovation made Hollywood what it is today. My point was that most movies are rehashed junk today, Spielberg and Cameron are where they are today by taking on new and innovative scripts, stories, and technology.

"Not a whole lot happened."

As long as you weren't the guy beaten or the woman assaulted. What a dumbshit thing to say.

I saw it this weekend. Surprisingly good. The filmmakers did an excellent job of tying it in to the original series concept. I was skeptical, too, but I think this will be a good trilogy.

I had hopes for this movie. The original were actors in cheesy unarticulated monkey mask and today's CGI could do a lot for the realism.

I think that some sci-fi movies should be remade with today's effects - but so many just fall short. I'm not sure why - maybe they try to make the remake "their own."

Possibly the dumbest thing I've ever heard anyone say. The concept of the original planet of the apes was god damned rediculous. This movie made the only logical set up for a fucking planet run by talking monkeys....

WashingTone-Locian, you're my dad and I love you, but if you bring up that damn dirty monkey movie one more time, I'm going to shove my hot sweaty balls up your tight little asshole.

I seem to recall DC being a Planet of the Apes of sorts. On Capitol Hill, there are the howler monkeys, and elsewhere, there are the mandrills that prominently display their bottoms by wearing saggy pants, and the overfed gorillas that I so not-fondly remember waddling about looking for KFC.
