Wall Street today - place your bets

Ok, everyone on here has great financial advice in hindsight. So lets see some predictions on how the market will do today and at the end of the day see who nailed it.

I think at closing a loss on the DOW of -200 give or take ten points. It will start out with a big drop then some bottom feeders will come in around 2 PM and bring it up but not enough to offset the early losses.

I am optimistically looking for a loss around 30 to 40 points.

The jobs report for July will come out today and I thjnk everyone knew by mid morning yesterday that it would be dismal. I think most of the heavy bleeding was done yesterday and there may be stagnation or minimal gains in the next weeks, maybe some bargain hunting.

I would hope so but with the media peddling non stop panic like they do with everything else these days it is a tough sell to get people buying.

I am hoping the rush yesterday afternoon was by the get wit' nitwits who wanted in on the sell action, not the savvy investors.

There was really a lot of fear selling of stocks unrelated to the housing/banking bubble in 08 that shouldn't have happened. I know a woman who sold stcoks and lost several hundred grand in 08 only to see the same stocks rebound to close to it's original high 18 months later.

The debt ceiling signing was supposed to prevent this, and Dingle Barry was ready to have a parade. Instead, it illustrated to the world the fragility and precarious state of our economy. There were really ZERO significant spending cuts in the new budget, just the same smoke and mirrors shit that the Hogs on the Hill of both parties have been feeding from too long.

Another stimulus wouldn't "help" the economy, but it would instill an aura of false confidence like the last one did. Until the fundamentals are addressed, it is just going to be charade after charade.

A stimulus for our nation as we are today is like a dope fiend getting a new credit card- he can live as he was for a few more months, but unless the behavior changes drastically, the downward spiral continues.

I think the floor is 11,000. I agree that the market has factored in a weak jobs report. I think the market will be in a holding pattern until the Super Commission does whatever it does this Fall.

Based on the losses seen in Japan and Europe, I'm gonna guess that we'll take another 150 point loss.

*Someone* is buying in this market. Eventually the prices that the more solid companies are trading for will start to look really attractive to the cash sitting on the sidelines.

But but but..........4 more years says it's all tied to being the summer of rollercoaster recovery.

Let me know what it's time to buy so I wont miss the opportunity to NOT do so as I always haven't.

Legalized gambling............I can have a better time at AC or Vegas, lose less money and see Wayne Newton at the same time.

Strike that last part.

Well, a nice open. I'm happy to be wrong. We'll see if this rally has legs.

1250 was the point of the breakdown from the high of 1370 at the apex of the big head-and-shoulders pattern. The target for the decline is 1130.

The 200-day moving average is at 1285. A 15-percent deviation from this level would take the S&P 500 down to 1092.

20-percent off the top is the demarcation for a bear market. That would be a level they would want to defend. That would be 1096.

So, a range of 1090-1130 is a reasonable expectation for this decline.

A bounce back to 1250 or 1285 should occur. If it keeps accelerating, it may be crash mode similar to 1987 (-40% in 2 months). Remember Bernanke is following the same policies as the Fed in 1985-1987. He's trying to reflate the economy by devaluing the dollar. The markets are very sensitive to exchange rates, as shown yesterday when both the Yen and the Euro fell out of bed against the dollar, the former done intentionally by Japan.
