Has God Ever Spoken to You?

TULSA, Okla. (AP) - Twenty years ago, televangelist Oral Roberts said he was reading a spy novel when God appeared to him and told him to raise $8 million for Roberts' university, or else he would be "called home."

At a [Oral Roberts University] chapel service this week on the 5,300-student campus known for its 60-foot-tall bronze sculpture of praying hands, [Richard] Roberts said God told him: "We live in a litigious society. Anyone can get mad and file a lawsuit against another person whether they have a legitimate case or not. This lawsuit ... is about intimidation, blackmail and extortion."

History is replete with God or his/her representatives speaking to select people. The above news items made me wonder if God is speaking to any of us. This thread seeks to explore divine intervention and guidance. Given the sensitivity of this issue to many people, please, in God’s name, limit the facetious remarks.

God has spoken to me many times. Usually He tells me to be patient. He tells me what jobs to look for. But usually angels talk to me more often. God is mighty busy these days.

God told me just yesterday how he is getting his seat fixed for Hillary in 08 when she takes over.

I believe that God (or something/someone) speaks to me every day via "gut" feelings. I also am a witness to divine intervention relative to circumstances involving myself and events affecting others.

Do you think it's possible that our subconscious could be what we all assume/believe is God? Is our subconscious mind our higher spirit? Could our higher spirit be that part of us that continues to "live" once our physical body and ego has died?

By the way, I just had lunch and my gut tells me that you will reply....

I will share one....

I was driving down Oak Valley in Vienna late one evening after a hard 14 hour work day. As soon as I made the right onto Oak Valley, I fell asleep at the wheel. When I awoke, my car (at the time a gold 280Z) was in a ditch with a mail box acting as an anchor preventing it from slipping further down into the crevice.

With no hesitation, I opened my car door and began to walk home, which was only about 1 mile away from the accident scene. Upon entering my home, my mother and father ran toward me with their arms outstretched as if to hug me. It was then that I fainted; only to wake again this time in my home with my Mother and Father leaning over me.

We called the police to report the accident, and met them at my car. The police officer was amazed to see me standing there, as he told us that when he arrived, he KNEW he was going to find the driver dead in the front seat. The car was wrapped like a U around a STEEL MAILBOX POLE that was buried 3 feet into the ground. Given that I was on the right side of the road and the car had drifted to the left for only about 5 or 6 ft, it should have made impact with the pole at the drivers’ side door or close to it. Instead, it was like some one turned the wheel so as to guide it more to the left to hit dead center which spared not only me, but a passenger (if I had one at the time.)

That is just one experience I have had that allows me to believe that Divine Intervention is possible and will come to anyone that is in need. Later that week I found the reason I was spared. My mother's mother died, and I needed to be there for her....

A gut feeling/subconcious is a result of past experiences and/or knowledge

if really want god to be in the argument, then you can argue that god made your mind in such a way that you retain enough knowledge and experiences to be able to guide yourself, without any extra help.

because its my understanding that god has made himself* out to be anything but obvious.. meaning that he will never directly tell or show you what to do..

I believe that this definition fits deja vu better. I have had "gut" feelings about things that have not yet happened, and I am sure you have too.

Agreed - free will - what a gift.

thats why i threw in knowledge.. if it was limited to past experiences - then it would fit deja vu..

subconcious is what you know, but aren't necissarily thinking about

Then explain:

Why people get a gut feeling about a plane, decide not to go on it and the plane crashes

Why people get a gut feeling about a person and that person turns out to be a maniac

Why people get a gut feeling that their friend may be pregnant, and it turns out a few weeks later that they are indeed with child

Why people get a gut feeling about walking down a path somewhere, and it turns out that someone else got mugged that same day/evening..

In these and so many more examples, you did not KNOW anything...you just had a gut feeling...
Don't you think that could be a higher spirit/being talking to you?

pre knowledge of how a normal person acts, and subconciously noticing maniacal tendencies or actions (no matter how subtle)

you see.. originally i was going to add paranoia as part of your subconcious.. but i left it out because gut feelings aren't always about bad things happening to you..

imagine if you were the most oblivious person in the word.. so much that you don't even realize that crime exists in the world.. you'd walk down that path no matter what.. and you'd get mugged..

Tia, I think you make some good points. But here's what I think. Those moments can just happen by chance. I mean, are you saying people get 'gut feelings' everyday? I don't think I do. I mean sometimes I will make a decision based on how I feel, but nothing would have happened if I did walk or go the other way. I do believe somewhat in a higher force, but I don't know about this.

All I am saying is that when you do get a "gut feeling" I believe that to be a higher power speaking to me, trying to guide me in the right direction.

I don't want to get too involved here because I don't want to offend anyone, but I also believe that you are ALWAYS given (2) choices. One decision will keep you on your life's path, the other will lead you away (but you can always come back). That is where FREE WILL comes into play, and whether or not you follow your "gut" will result with you either staying on or straying from the path you are supposed to follow.

if god doesn't exist... then what are all these churches for? and who... is jesus's dad?

Don't forget the temples, mosques, synagogues, etc. They each have different gods.

You either put down the donuts and went for a walk, used your will power to quit lighting up, the technology of science helped restore the nerves thru stem cells..or just found that smoking pole wasn’t for you.

Why do people insist on self deprecation in the name of the Lord? People need to give themselves more credit were credit is due.

- It wasn’t all the hard work and people coming together to save a town that stopped the flood waters, it was God.
-It couldn’t have been your brain's instinct, learned thru life experience, that recognized a pattern in someone’s look or demeanor, that told you to steer clear of some shady guy.. It was God who directed you.
-And when something happened that someone cant explain, instead of trying to figure it out and exercise the brain, it is so much easier for it to be written off as Gods will.

In the beginning we had Gods and the supernatural to explain the rise and fall of the tides, sun, moon and stars. Later under a more traditional monotheism we believed the Lord controlled the universe and the motion of the planets, and then we figured out gravity. The supernatural answers to the questions that science has not yet understood, the questions we now so easily write off as 'Gods will', will too be found just as absurd as Zeus' lightning and Poseidon’s tides

And if one person brings up the Singularity argument, I will e-slap them back to kingdom-come. lol
