Drinking beer in mass quantities is happy.

Being unable to wait 45 minutes to do so is sad.

Single Malt OK....Johnnie walker black is a good stand by for your blended scotch too, but try the Balvenie 15 year and you will never go back. There are better single malts out there, but the 14 year is in the $$$ range you are wanting to see.

What are the best bars "restaurants with bar sections" for serious drinkers in Fairfax County? Good joints where one can sit at the bar, not get bothered. Extra points for bartenders that know when to be chatty and know when to leave patrons alone to get bombed.

I hope you did not pay much for that bottle of "Cavasier"! Did you buy it from a street vendor in NYC in a package deal with a "Rollex" watch?

I don't think that those haunts for the nouveau riche really meet the spirit of the establishments I am asking about.

Old Whiskey River is a really good bourbon for the price. It's Willie Nelson's brand but still good anyway. Goes down smooth with very little bite, and warms nicely this time of year.

And I'm sure Willie can use the few $.

Yes and no. I ultimately prefer divey, cheap, and boozy bars, but appreciate classy joints for serious drinkers.

I've been to Mortons and enjoyed it on some level, but it seemed overpriced for being so generic. And while I've been to the bar at the Ritz San Francisco (and enjoyed it), the two Ritz-Carltons in the DC area seem so sterile and soulless that I have no desire to spend a penny at them.

I like drinking beers at JVs and used to get bombed at Tiffany Tavern back in the day. I also like drinking Scotch at the Willard. So I guess what I'm looking for is: what are the best low-end and high-end drinking establishments? I have zero interest in the mushy middle.

Why not just drink at home? Trying to hide drinking from wife, or are you out at the bars looking for ass?

I find it tough whenever I go into Shoppers Food to get something to go from the salad or food bar for lunch. You see Shoppers has that walk in beer cooler.

Not the kind where you open the door and it hits you in the back as you reach for a six pack like in 7-11. But a full walk in room surrrounded by stacks and stacks of ice cold beer. I dont want to get my ass fired from work as they have a strict no alcohol policy but it is tempting.

^ ^ ^ save that shit for another thread; this ones about the glory of alcohol, not the downside of it

I find that 211 Steel Reserve is cheap and has 8/9% abv. The taste is a little rough but you dont notice it if you get soused first. And btw that new Shoppers walk in beer room is one I wouldnt mind getting locked in overnight.

I bought a bottle of Evan Williams egg nog. Its damned good. I find it much creamier than other ones. Unfortunately, I cannot find it at the two local ABC stores (I found it last year), but did find it in DC.

Is it better to spike the stuff from a grocery store, or buy premixed at ABC?

I just get the stuff from ABC, it's pretty cheap. Mr. Boston is 30 proof, that's plenty for me.

Spiking will be cheaper - in the long run.

750 Ml of Evan Williams Green is $10.00. Half gallon of Giant Egg nog is about $4.00.

My guess is 3:1 or 4:1 egg nog to bourbon. 1 gallon of egg nog to 1 750 Ml of bourbon will cost $18.00

Single 750 Ml of premixed egg nog is $8.00. So $40.00 for premix (5 750 Ml is about a gallon).

You've got this shit down. I'll prob opt for premade (small btl) because I will have a few drinks and get sick of it. I already know it's going to be too sweet. Your idea is tempting though. I can just switch to evan/coke when I get sick of the melted ice cream(egg nog).
