Since tattoos are permanent, that one that looks good on you now probably won't look good on you when you're 45-50 years old. It's like when you're at a wedding and there's the 45 year old aunt with the tramp stamp or neck tattoo that makes her look trashy. It was probably hot when she was 22, but not now.

I've had a few guys over the years I would have liked to hire but they had crazy tats that couldn't be hidden. A lot of drunk college kids wind up with shit they later regret. One gal last summer had a large outline on her side I just couldn't figure out. She said this guy she met said he was an artist and screwed her up horribly. This thing looked like a three year old drawing on an etch a sketch from her hip all the way to her armpit.

When I first started got serious about photography and started shooting models, if the girl had any tattoos, she was immediately crossed off the list. Now, because of the whole sheepish fad, it's nearly impossible to find models without tattoos.

The funny thing is, they almost always want the photographers to clone them out. As if to say, "I should never have done it".

It really bothers me when I see a really beautiful woman, with perfect skin, hair and body, then see an obnoxious, ugly and meaningless tattoo. It ruins perfection and symmetry and leaves a horrible stain on their skin after 5-6 years.

I think a lot of the time, there's some dopey, redneck or ghetto guy that convinces them to get inked up. Then these chicks wonder why only those type of guys are attracted to them.

In 10 years, we'll look back on all this as the decade of self-mutilation and try to excuse it by claiming it was a bad economy or "we were at war" or some other lame reason.
