Do you know someone "Living on the Down Low"
A guy who is so obviously gay but hiding behind a marriage/kids?
I do. I know at least 2 guys in my neighborhood like that.
I understand why they might do it. It must be hard to think about "coming out". I'm sure some guys convince themselves that they just could never do that to their family/mother..whoever
What is harder to understand though is the women who marry men like that.
Do they not notice? Are they desperate?

Around here, house + wife + kids + car = status. Two of those are unattainable for an openly-gay man. But what to do if he wants to climb the corporate/government ladder? Sure, you can if you're gay, but it's a hell of a lot more difficult even with today's anti-discrimination laws.
Plus, you can't get gay married in Virginia.
Or, they're deeply religions people who believe their urges are a sin that must be contained.

Used to use the term in the 90's to mean just under the radar or keeping a low profile. I still like the way it sounds but it's been appropriated by da gays, not cool.
Don't really like the word "gay" for that matter and I'm sure Hanna-Barbaera are turning in their graves and wish they could re-write the final verse of the Flintstones theme for the same reason.

I don't know what it is that makes people doubt whether they themselves are straight or not, but I have a friend like that. The guy was in love with this girl, and he was really going heavy with her. Then he suddenly broke off the relationship and declared that he was gay. The way in which I saw him loving this girl, and how he couldn't think of anything else but her, I know that he can't truly be gay, but for some reason he's now got it in his mind that he is.
