MacGowan and Victoria Mary Clarke started their relationship in 1981. This was when MacGowan was still struggling. He didn't have money yet, so she wasn't attracted to that. He was always an unfortunate looking man, so she wasn't going for looks. She went for him because she recognized his musical genius.

There has yet to be a musical genius who cannot attract a partner.

Meade Skelton is a musical genius and he has yet to attract a partner unless his relationship with Rachel progresses.
