The FOOD POLICE are looking for me & you
Posted by: Gardener/Farmer ()

Congress has a bill S510 & SB S510 (Vote pending) that could make it against the law to grow raw agricultural fruits & vegetables that they deem are hazards to your health. We will be fined and are going to jail. But, growing Pot will be Ok.

So are you in favor of people growing plants to sell that contain bacteria and poisons? The problem isn't Congress, it dumb asses that would go to the store, buy the stuff and then sue for millions that the government would have to pay.

This bill (probably sponsored by your local chain grocer & their suppliers via some lucrative campaign donations for the upcoming election) is an attempt to regulate the kind of food that you get at a farmer's market, thereby making it more expensive. Big grocers/food producers are feeling threatened by this local food movement and people shopping at farmer's markets and are salty because they have to follow a bunch regulations while the smaller guys don't. Your local grocers are basically middlemen who are now getting cut out of the loop, and are pissed about it. IMHO, this is not a good reason to pass legislation that will, ultimately, harm consumers. The "food safety" aspect of it is just a feel good title, they think if they put the word "safety" in it, it will pass regardless of how ridiculous it is - what politician wants to vote against "safe food"? The whole thing is a travesty, and it's crap like this that makes this country fat and unhealthy. And it's just absurd -- they're going to make local, fresh produce more expensive with one bill while forcing me to stop eating salt in another for my "health"?!? Please. What a hot mess.

Agree for the most part, but this isn't why we are fat and unhealthy. It is a lifestyle choice. I know that I have changed my ways to get back into fighting shape in preparation for the up coming immigration revolution down in AZ. I can't wait!!!
