the phrase "I paid for this microphone" was the coup de grace to the Democrats, Reagan was great with words. Gary Hart's "If you are going to follow me around... follow me around!!" to the press destroyed his Democrat bid. That was a big scandal back then. "If the good Lord willing and the creek don't flood" was pure John Wayne/ Libs favorite saying of the 70s. "Love mean never saying you're a sorry bastard"
