Are Gas Stations Required to Provide Oil Recycling to General Public?
Posted by: Oil and gas ()

I get screws and nails in my fucking tires every time I go to FFX Transfer station - Ive spent 100's on replacing tires. Antifreeze too?

my trumptard neighbor actually does something smart. He saves old oil and burns it in an oil stove in his tool shed.

my trumptard neighbor responded that way to a judge once, and spent a weekend in jail for contempt.

no, no one is required by law to take your used fluids

and I call bullshit on a few things, you getting debris in your
tires at the FFX transfer station as I go there several times a
year to dispose of used oil, you actually being able to change
the fluids on a vehicle, and you owning a vehicle

I call bullshit on you ever going to the Transfer station. If you had you would know the oil recycling (and paint) is at the very end of the property - you literally have to drive all the way through the transfer station to dump oil. Once you dump it, you then drive out past the mulch, building materials and scrap. All outside in the open, all simply piled up on part of the blacktop - its filled with screws, nails and metal. I have picked up 3 screws in my last 5 trips over the last year and a half.

As to changing fluids I did it today and I can tell you the torque on my oil drain plug is 28 foot pounds. I do all my own work on my cars.

Used Motor Oil, Oil Filters and Antifreeze Collection Sites

Many service stations, auto repair shops, parts stores and local governments provide collection sites for these waste products. Please contact your locality's recycling program coordinator for information about used oil recycling where you live. Information on the collection center locations may also be obtained through DEQ's Toll-Free Hotline number, 1-800-592-5482.

when you go to the transfer station, there are brooms and employees that sweep
the crap out of the driving lanes, if you drive though the crap that is your own
stupid fault

I've never used a torque wrench on a drain plug, ever, on anything, and I've
never had a drain plug leak. Cylinder heads, intakes, oil pans, main bearing caps, differential gears, I've torqued every single time. I've never even
torqued lug nuts, never had one come off and never not been able to change a
flat, which has been rare because I don't drive through construction debris

The act of proper torquing of a fastener is pre-loading. Proper preloading is very important to prevent metal fatigue. A bolt, for example is a spring, by preloading it properly you minimize the travel of the spring action of the bolt thus reducing the metal fatigue. Granted not important in a plug but the other applications its very important. Not torquing your lug nuts is a mistake. Its quite easy with an impact and torque sticks.

As to the transfer station - youve never been there. If you had you would know there are no 'men with brooms' you would also know how large the lanes and recycling stations are making a 'broom' an absurd notion.

what's absurd is the idea of the place being covered in nails and screws,
hundreds of people use the facility every week and there aren't hundreds
of flat tires as a result

I hope you don't have kids, they will end up being as stupid as you and the
spring you use as a drain plug

torque sticks aren't for setting torque with an impact, they prevent over
tightening with an impact, to a point. They aren't fool proof.

I'm done with the troll tread

1. you have never been to the transfer station.

2. torque sticks do indeed set the torque for lug nuts using an impact wrench. I use these https://www.harborfreight.com/12-in-torque-limiting-extension-bar-set-10-pc-69870.html

3. missed you saD cl0wN

I pay a nigger to change and dispose the oil. Don’t need to know and don’t care. Fuck the environment.

These days the assholes in tire stores follow the asshole tire manufacturer guidelines on patching - basically unless you get a nail in the middle 30% of the tread you have to replace the tire. The new patches are pulled from the inside so you have to dismount the tire, grind the inside, clean it then run the patch inside out. The old plugs worked just fine anywhere other than within an inch of the sidewall. Its a ripoff to make you buy new tires instead of a $5 plug. They claim with a plug there could be water infiltration of the steel belt and it could rust out and blow like a nuclear bomb while your babies are in your car.

So now, 50% of the time picking up a nail or screw will cost you $150-$200 for a new tire. Bonus if your tires have more than say 30% wear and you drive an AWD they recommend you replace ALL the tires because putting a new tire on with 3 worn tires will cause problems with some AWD systems. So then that nail just cost you $800.
