The democrats in Richmond will probably screw us out of Lee-Jackson day for 2021. It made for a awesome 4 day weekend as it is the Friday before MLK day. From what I hear they want to eliminate LJ day and give us election day instead. I am guessing that most State and municipal employees are democrats so they think they will get more votes if we have the day off.

I’ve lived in Fairfax County most of my life, and am currently residing just off Lee Jackson Memorial Highway out near Lee’s Corner. How was I not ever aware that there was a Lee-Jackson day until now? Lol

Fairfax county stopped giving its employees LJ day off years ago but most county employees in Virginia get it off. State employees that have to work that day get 8 hours of leave to use before July 1st.

Back in the 70s and early 80s all the Banks were closed on LJ day. At one time it was on Monday but they moved it back to Friday years after MLK day was established. There were quite a few years where they were on the same day and it was called Lee-Jackson King day. The African American folks did not like it so the general assembly moved it to Friday.

It is all about money. If the State/Counties give you Lee Jackson day off as a paid holiday it costs them money. Most of them give several hours of administrative leave for you to go vote (come in late/leave work early) and that costs them money. If they get rid of Lee Jackson day and give election day as a holiday they are saving all that leave time they currently pay for.
Personally, since everyone is a whiney bitch about everything anymore, I say do away with ALL named holidays. Everybody gets 12 days a year to use as leave whenever they want. No more shutting down everything for this day or that day and then paying overtime to those that have to work that day. So you would get 12 (or whatever number) of "floating holidays" and however many "vacation days" you are entitled to based on your position/tenure.
Personally, since everyone is a whiney bitch about everything anymore, I say do away with ALL named holidays. Everybody gets 12 days a year to use as leave whenever they want. No more shutting down everything for this day or that day and then paying overtime to those that have to work that day. State and county employees are sucking off the government teat and they are overwhelmingly Democrat. Giving them election day off will result in more votes for democrats. This is the whole reason for this change.

Lee-Jackson day should not only be a regular working day the holiday should be completely eliminated and all references to it should be erased. Any books about it should be burned and Confederate flags should be outlawed.

Sounds like you "work" for the government so you are probably a lib. With election day as a state holiday instead of LJ day you can round up voter ID cards from the elderly and vote in their place. You can do this all day long. The democrats will totally benefit from this. God bless America

Repeal both LJ Day and MLK Day. In less than a month there is Christmas, New Years, LJ Day and MLK Day. That is two too many. If workers genuinely want to honor these people then let them take a day off to do it. Its a far smaller sacrifice than Lee, Jackson or King endured.
