Many of today's best selling games are not firm on making a next release.

it's all the european top sellers (RPG of any kind, top Action) and even Sim City
sayings like "there is only so much time in life" and so on, and "we can't swear we will", and "there is money in it but it needs backing", and "it may not be until 2022"
several top titles are all flopping out of the sky with releases that left in major bugs (POE II,III) players swore they could not tolerate
meanwhile, asian firms (like Sony Entertainment, or china) have more "regular workplaces" and a kick outpace you can bet on
and the number of "free indie releases" are so high you'd think Iran is should worry about a gamer backlash more than a saudi backlash!

One major maker expressed that technology needs to mature more to make a new release more than just new add-ons - but add-ons can be a tougher sell.
The content they need to "stay competitive" has gone from expansive to absolutely massive, making their release times longer and longer off.
A new game of the same title with a smaller world and worse graphics - they "just can't do that".

the question should be consolidation, fairness, hours spent by developers and gamers, questions that are productive while not being absurd
the fact is computers need to progress, and the games that run on them shouldn't go backward in time (a sign of negligence)
