Is Meade's break from reality getting worse or is he just letting it out more lately?

Maybe the turning point for Meade is not returning to college next month, but a stay in the nut hut next month.

I really can't tell if he is just really delusional like he does about his so-called 'talent' or if he is just an imbecile. I'm leaning towards 'imbecile' at this point.
