Posting just a link is a dick move. However, the video by a Rep in TN does apply here in FFX County. The commonwealth requires you be served in person for any violation - mail from fuckface camera co. aint that. Not only have they failed to serve you under VA law they certainly could never even prove you received the letter in the mail. 'We mailed it' doesnt constitute anything.
I have gotten 2 of these from the camera at Picket and Lttl River Tpk in Fairfax - I laugh at them and chuck them. You get 2 maybe 3 notices then they stop. Its a disgrace anyone pays them at all. Presumption of guilt, no chain of evidence, no ability to face your accuser, biased 3rd party for-profit party bringing these allegations. Absurd.

He's wrong as far as most anywhere goes.
They (DC, VA, MD) will SEIZE YOUR CAR after those notices. Once they do, it will be "nearly impossible to get back", and likely so expensive it will cost the car to get it back.
NEVER follow internet advise telling you that your local government "won't take action". They might - and many DO, however illegally.
If you live in a corrupt area they will seize your car.

Here’s the code requiring personal service of red-light camera tickets (emphasis added):
15.2-968.1. Use of photo-monitoring systems to enforce traffic light signals.
G. A summons for a violation of this section may be executed pursuant to 19.2-76.2. Notwithstanding the provisions of 19.2-76, a summons for a violation of this section may be executed by mailing by first class mail a copy thereof to the owner, lessee, or renter of the vehicle. In the case of a vehicle owner, the copy shall be mailed to the address contained in the records of the Department of Motor Vehicles; in the case of a vehicle lessee or renter, the copy shall be mailed to the address contained in the records of the lessor or renter. Every such mailing shall include, in addition to the summons, a notice of (i) the summoned person’s ability to rebut the presumption that he was the operator of the vehicle at the time of the alleged violation through the filing of an affidavit as provided in subsection D and (ii) instructions for filing such affidavit, including the address to which the affidavit is to be sent. If the summoned person fails to appear on the date of return set out in the summons mailed pursuant to this section, the summons shall be executed in the manner set out in 19.2-76.3. No proceedings for contempt or arrest of a person summoned by mailing shall be instituted for failure to appear on the return date of the summons. Any summons executed for a violation of this section shall provide to the person summoned at least 60 business days from the mailing of the summons to inspect information collected by a traffic light signal violation monitoring system in connection with the violation.

Essentially it’s saying that they can attempt to mail you a ticket, but if that doesn’t work they have to hand-deliver it in order for the ticket to be valid.

and for a $50 ticket, the sheriffs office has more important shit to do. The scam counts on the gullible to mail in $50 without question, and it is quite successful

Outrageous the statute requires an affidavit from contestant stating it was not them when the State is incapable of proving it was any particular person. Presumption of guilt by the State without any direct evidence.
What if you had your car in for repair or service and they were test driving the vehicle? Could you possibly remember if it was you or the mechanic assuming the shop was near the red light camera?
Its your duty to chuck this garbage.
