Heaven forbid someone does something useful with our tax dollars.

And if you get to chose where your dollars go to, I find it repugnant that most of mine go to the military. The military needs a budget, but we just throw money at them.

Very little Federal money goes to college education. Much of what does goes through the military. Most of that money is coming from state and local governments, private donations and student payments.

UVA's endowment is like $1.6B...that's right, BILLION.

In my opinion, with the exception of Military Benefits, no Federal funds should go toward College education. These institutions want to run themselves like a business, let them run themselves like a business. If they cannot survive on the income derived from tuition, books/fees, room/board and private donations then they should adjust their spending or close down. Period. Why should the Federal Government be subsidizing the exorbitant salaries of Professors, the building of new facilities and most importantly the sports programs? Colleges have lost their focus. Why should I have to take a bunch of nonsense electives, that are pure profit for the College because they cost next to nothing to teach, so that DeWallaceShante gets a "free ride" to carry a toy around for a few months out of the year?

It's $30k, not $80k.

That is criminal. This is a State School. That money belongs to the taxpayers, not this institution. They have found a way to game the system that would put you or I in jail. What if the Fairfax County Police collected fines/fees for 10 years and never fed any of that money back to the county general fund, instead putting it in a "rainy day fund". Each year they go in front of the Board of Supervisors and ask for more money due to increased costs, it is voted on and a budget is approved, with the Board having to divert funds from other much needed projects to make sure our Police can function at the highest level. Then one day the Fairfax County Police announce they are building a new training facility, buying an additional helicopter and acquiring land for a new Headquarters building. The Board of Supervisors questions where the money is going to come from and the citizens question if there is going to be a ballot measure put forwards on this. Nope says the Fairfax County Police, we already have the money to pay for it all. That is not how government budgets are supposed to work. You start the year with a pot of money and the goal is to have nothing in that pot at the end of they year because you only spent what was allocated to you, and you start fresh next year with a new pot of money, hopefully including any increases that are determined necessary.

Is $68,114. UVA is going to be full of trumptards.
