The next presidential election is only two years away. In November of 2006 John McCain formed a presidential exploratory committee. Look for Palin to do the same thing later this year. As with all primaries, the Republican candidates will take an ideological shift to the right, right into Palin's territory. Moderate party members will be unable to compete with Palin's strong support with the religious and reactionary right. The secondary candidate will, again, be Mitt Romney. His campaign will again fail to establish the support of Republican primary voters.

Palin will ultimately be defeated by the Democrats and Barack Obama when she fails to gain the support of moderate voters from both Republican and Democratic leanings.

Humm, yes- personally I would like to see Sarah Palin defeated. But "solid," do you think she will win the Republican nomination? Or ultimately the presidency?

If Palin runs, the Democrats win. If she gets the nomination, most halfway intelligent people won't vote for her in the general election because they are afraid of what she will do if elected. If she doesn't get the nomination, the teabaggers will not show up for the general election.

The Republicans could probably win in 2012 if they nominated someone like Romney. But I don't think they will.

They are keeping mostly silent now because she is good for firing up the base and raising money, but if she were to ever get remotely close to securing the nomination there would be metaphorical atom bombs dropped all over the place. "pulling a Kerry" is certainly a possibility for the Republicans. It really doesn't matter if the party insiders don't want her to win- the Republican nomination is actually a democratic process. If Palin is again savaged by the Republican establishment, she may support an alternate candidate, and bring her base supporters with her . . .

She'll keep being coy about it as long as she can and probably even take some steps to appear she is going to run. She is making tens of thousands per speech, millions from the book, and god knows what from Faux News--she doesn't need to milk it long.

People were excited about Jesse Ventura, too, when he was elected governor of Minnesota. But as we saw afterward, he didn't have whatever the "IT" is to be a successful "Pat Buchanan"-type on TV.
