Why aren’t teachers rewarded just as handsomely for the fruits of their labor like other well paid professionals? They don’t generate wealth in the traditional sense, but they educate future members of our society who will hopefully steer us in the right direction and take care of us when we are to feeble or senile to care for ourselves. Teachers in many other industrialized nations are respected as highly as lawyers. I think that’s an investment we can all get on board with.

Because successful hedge fund managers and bankers work more days than teachers, need to know more stuff and never seem to go on strike when they don't get their way.

Hedgefund managers and bankers would strike if they got shit pay and benefits. I agree on all your other points, but unless you’ve done it yourself, you wouldn’t know how difficult it is to teach others let alone kids.

Lets eliminate the department of education and teachers unions and make their jobs competitive and keep government out of it.

The problem isn’t the government or unions, it’s the value American society gives to education and teachers. I’ve lived in a lot of countries, first, second and third world and I can say for certainty no country devalues and is as skeptical of education as the United States. We need to change the perception that teachers do not produce anything meaningful or contribute to the prosperity of our nation.

Almost anyone can become a teacher, very few people can successfully run a hedge fund.

Because there are not independent measures of their capabilities. Shitty teachers can thrive next to excellent ones, while the latter can be vilified by small, jealous peers and administrators. May God bless the generous, great teachers!

The teacher I'm married to works seven days a week in a painful effort to keep your little misplaced cum spots engaged as do most teachers. Did you know that two of your 3 kids are actually yours and the darker one is Bubba's the neighborhood trash collector.
