It's always necessary to ferret out who one's true "allies/friends" are underneath all the blubbering, blustering and propagandizing, glad-handing and faux political spin. One of the best ways to determine that is to force their hand and give them a choice to make between two impossible (for them) outcomes. You can only test to know know who to trust with a responsibility. That is when you find out who they truly are. Preconceived notions of who your allies and enemies really are do not work. They unveil themselves when tested.
