Trump is profiting off the presidency. His proceeds are only expected to increase as a result. He refuses to divest or even release his tax returns. How much do you think he will be able to cash in?

To be clear, a “Demagogue” is a leader, or candidate for leader, in a democracy who gains popularity by exploiting the innate prejudice and settled ignorance among the common people. The Demagogue usually whips up the passions of disdain and fears of the proletariat class. To protect the demagogue, the agitator usually shuts down reasoned deliberation, and debate, and has been know to provide the common an alternate narration of each day’s events to make the commons comfortable.

Demagogues exploit a fundamental weakness in democracy; because ultimate power is held by the people by their vote, nothing stops the people from voting for someone who appeals to, and exploits, the lowest common denominator of a large segment of the population. To get power, a demagogue will verbally abuse, to his own advantage, certain segments of society that are different than the common. Those segments could be be based on religion, race, or stage of assimilation.
