The Muslim group "stole" the parade date from the sons of Confederate veterans and will now hold a pro-islamic parade of their own.
I sure hope there is no violence at this parade but many Confederate flag waving rednecks are not happy about this. A quote from the Lee-Jackson event website (they improperly name the group "CARE" instead of "CAIR"),

Lee and Thomas J. “Stonewall” Jackson in their final home and resting place. The latest action is not an act to solidify the community as CARE claims, but an attempt to silence the viewpoints of those they disagree with in the most disrespectful of ways. Unlike CARE, the SCV believes in freedom of expression and believes their viewpoint has every right to be expressed in the public sphere, but not when they choose to do so by attempting quash our right to give honor to the leaders and soldiers which we descend from."

It's really hard to believe that the state of Virginia gives every employee Lee-Jackson day off with pay or 8 hours of leave for the state employees that have to work such as state troopers. It is a waste of our tax dollars.

The CAIR organizers had better be careful because they are entering a different world in Lexington. They are liable to get their collective asses kicked rather good and the police are just as likely to give the crowd a hand as what they will protect them, particularly if it is a confrontational demonstration.

Sounds like the Lexington city officials side with the CAIR group and would like to see these SCV people go away. Not surprising as Lexington is home to 2 major colleges. The educated and intelligent people want this ignorant confederate shit to go away as it makes Lexington look like a racist town.

They are trying to provoke a confrontation. Remember 10 years ago when they tried to provoke NASCAR fans - turned out the good Christian rednecks just thought, " hey you like racing too? Nice."

We were willing to share LJ day with MLK day and Virginia did so for several years but the black folk got all pissed off about that so LJ day got pushed back to Friday. So now we have a 4 day weekend instead of 3. Cost to the taxpayers is less than 1.5 million so no biggie.

Although CARE claims to be a peaceful organization, we have been informed that affiliated CARE groups have engaged in nudity and lewd acts during parades in other areas and we strongly discourage any confrontation which would not be in the spirit of Lee or Jackson, nor Martin Luther King, Jr. who encouraged his followers during his lifetime to leave the Confederate flag and memorials alone to encourage peace, not division as CARE truly is promoting.
