Far-right Sweden Democrats neck-and-neck in poll with 2nd most popular party

The far-right anti-immigration party Sweden Democrats are tying for second place with the center-right opposition, a new poll shows. It comes as right-wing parties across Europe see Donald Trump’s victory as a welcome defeat for the establishment.

According to a poll published on Wednesday by Aftonbladet newspaper, support for the Sweden Democrats (SD) party rose to 21.5 percent, compared with the 13 percent they got in the 2014 general election. While the ruling Social Democrats maintain their lead of 25.7 percent, the Sweden Democrats (SD) are gaining ground on the Moderate Party, the largest opposition party with a popularity of 22 percent.

SD popularity figures are rising for a third month in a row, Aftonbladet adds. “There is a movement in both Europe and the United States where the establishment is being challenged,” SD leader Jimmie Akesson told the Dagens Nyheter newspaper. “It is clearly happening here as well.”

Actually, Trump's rise or as you put it the "Trump Effect" originated in the UK. I would say the whole populist movement has stemmed from Brexit. It pretty much opened up the flood gates, and showed politicians and voters that far right movements had enough political capitol to win office. France, Germany and of course, Scandinavia are next in line to fall to the populist wave. Populism is a trend however I believe will die out in the next four years.

With the increase of African and Asian Muslims in Europe I dont see Euro Populism declining in the near future. The "refugee" invasion is turning average western Europeans into staunch far-right supporters

Gerry, first I can't believe you'd even show your "face" around here after all the shit you talked and you, your candidate, and your entire party got rebuked last week.

Second, please do a little research on how parliamentary governments in Europe work. Pretty much most of them do not have clear majorities in the Parliament (UK being a fairly constant exception) so they have to form coalitions.

What this means Gerry is that whoever wins there and does not have a clear majority may need to include these guys in their coalition and a general condition for junior parties to be included is incorporation of parts of the platform into the new government's objectives.
