Some advice needed about sublessee
Posted by: Jimmy the landlord ()

A short time ago I subleased my apartment to what I thought was a quiet, trouble free guy. He was a bit of a shut in, but he seemed like he was reliable. Now, he says he can't pay the $1350 in rent because his girlfriend is in jail.

I walked in this morning and there is blood on the carpet and walls. I couldn't get a straight story out of him, but the neighbors tell me that there was a police SWAT response to my apartment and the quiet, trouble free guy was carted away in an ambulance while the girlfriend was shot with a bean bag bullet.

Am I going to get in trouble with the apartment's management, and what is the process for kicking out the guy that I thought was so reliable?

I have a problem with this timeline of events. You talked to him at the jail?

You spent the night some other place but came back this morning?

Tell him you know everything and if he doesn't give you $25,000 you're going to rat him out.

Even if the person is a sublessee he is still a tenant. If you want to get rid of him you need to follow the same rules that a landlord would.

Did the girlfriend ever shit on the carpet?
Does the tenant ever make PYBRs?

This is enough evidence to proove this dude is a clear and present danger to other tenants. Toss him out - nobody will care!
