Why is English so hard?

English is a funny language. Maybe the fact that it is funny explains the race problem in America.

For example, we all know that an “egret” is a white bird. What is a “negret?”

For example, we all know that a “piglet” is a small or baby pig. What is a “niglet?”

For example, we all know that an “egress” is a way out, means essentially the same thing as “exit.” What is a “negress?”

Wrap and unwrap. Opposites.
Thaw and unthaw. Synonyms.

Weird eh?

It's only hard for ignorant foreigners who don't belong here.

It's hard because the English language has been influenced by a host of other languages who belong to different language groups. English, although originally belonging to the Germanic language groups of upper Saxony are also influenced heavily by Latin, various celto-brittanic dialects, Norse, and Norman French. As a consequence, the lexical and grammar rules of each contributing language overlap, making the English language a confusing, and bumbling collection of mongrel dialects mishmashed into one. English is one of the most cumbersome and ugly languages spoken on God's green Earth, but due to the cultural influence of Britain and the United States, it remains one of the most popular languages spoken, and will continue to be for some time..

The Germanic and French compound noun construction is particularly incompatible. Swimming pool versus pool of swimming. Crown of thorns versus thorn crown. Which is correct English?

Latin and Greek crept in due to religious and technical usage.
