Gov. (R) Bruce Rauner won't attend the Republican National Convention or formally endorse Donald Trump for president as fallout from the controversial presumptive nominee reverberates throughout the Illinois GOP.

Aides to the first-term Republican governor said Rauner, who declined to back a candidate in what was once a crowded GOP presidential field, would remain focused on Illinois' troubled finances.

Rauner joins U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk in bypassing the July convention in Cleveland as Illinois' two highest-ranking Republicans seek to avoid the political minefield created by Trump, the real estate mogul and former reality TV show star.

Now the big question is how will the republican party get rid of Trump?

They have to run a third party candidate, get him on as many ballots as they can. Keep any candidate from reaching a majority in the electoral college and then hove the Republican House decide the next President. The Speaker of the House would probably appoint himself.

They can do that and it is feasible. Its dirty as fuck but they can use Trump as an excuse.

Ryan has already said he will not accept the nomination so the Speaker is out. McCain has said he might run again.

It would have to be an entirely new candidate and one that is slightly liberal.

I'm not talking about the convention. I am talking about the House of Representatives appointing a president when a majority in the electoral college is not reached due to a third party candidate.

I am talking about a Constitutional power.

The person that runs isn't the person that becomes President. The House can pick whomever they want.

Interesting strategy. Run a third party middle of the road candidate to screw over a majority candidate. Then have Congress elect who they want.

The GOP could do that, but they won't stop Hillary from getting a majority as expected.
