I heard there were three winners the morning after the drawing on the radio. I suppose once the numbers are published in whatever form, the "news" doesn't care enough to continue plastering the story.
That said, there are 44 states that sell Powerball tickets. And they work pretty much like our elections. Different states report at different times. There is no massive network that keeps them all tied together. As we've seen in past elections, every state works at it's own pace.
California was probably quick with the winner because it was only what...seven in the evening out there when the numbers were drawn?
