Why is no one calling this morning's shooting a hate crime?
Date: August 26, 2015 05:50PM

He obviously killed them because they were white and he was angry about the SC church shooting.

I guess since his ass is dead we won't ever hear it mentioned.

Even if he wasn't dead, they still wouldn't call it a hate crime. Don't you understand how things work around here?

True, his actions were motivated by the SC church shooting. His victims, however, were not random 'white people'. He killed those two people because they worked at his former employer and his personally animosity toward them.

I've heard at least 20 or so teabaggers raging about this as a hate-crime. There are plenty of people calling it that.

The word is animus. But he could not experience this because it is the natural condition of the minority, ergo it is not notable.

Yeah, it's more ranting than raging. Let's go with ranting.

You left out the part where he specifically mentioned killing the woman because she made "racist" remarks and that the nature of his animosity toward them and the rest of the world largely was racially based. If it were a white guy who killed two blacks under the same circumstances then the narrative around this absolutely would be that of a hate crime.

Flanagan's perception that Parker and Ward were racist was the basis of his animus toward them. I wrote: "He killed those two people because they worked at his former employer and his personally animosity toward them."

Flanagan didn't kill random 'white people'; he killed Parker, and he killed Ward.

Based largely on racial motivations.

So you're saying that it can't be a hate crime simply because he worked with them and/or had some other past interaction with them? Randomness isn't a necessary legal nor practical basis for what's labeled as hate crimes.

I'm saying that Flanagan killed Parker & Ward because he hated THEM, not because he hated their skin color or their sexual orientation.

Not really. He hated them because they were the representation of all of the racial and gay victimization that he was convinced that he'd experienced to that point. Two straight white people works in that case. His larger motivation is reflected in how he couched the shooting himself in his own suicide note. e.g. Not likely that he would have shot two gay black guys who dissed him at work.

He hated them because of their freedom.

It wasn't suicide note. In Flanagan's car, police found a wig, shawl, hat and umbrella (disguise) , as well as three license plates, six Glock magazines and more ammunition, and a "to-do" list.

I believe that Flanagan was fully capable of killing anyone who he felt had 'dissed' him.

No. He faxed a 23 page suicide note, manifesto, whatever you'd like to call it to ABC News explaining his actions and motivations.

This.
There's many successful black journalists. He wasn't.
He couldn't deal with it. Had to make it somebody else's fault.
Sniveling entitled pricks like that abound in every color and stripe.
