Just me speculating but reports are surfacing that it was going over 100 mph into a curve.

I heard 80mph in a 30mph turn. Either way, that's nuts.

Train was traveling at over 100 mph confirmed by NTSB. Was traveling it 106 mph and limit for curve was 50 mph.

Good question. You may have a point. But I heard that the safety issues on that stretch of track had not been dealt with. Good point, though. I suppose we'll find out soon enough.

I just don't see how him falling asleep would have sped the train up. It seems like it would be quite the opposite, no? We will hear of this guy killing himself soon. There were no issues with the track, the issue was the 106 speed.

Apparently you don't understand that Amtrak is heavily subsidized and loses $100s of millions every year and has for 40 years. Though the NE corridor itself does OK.
