Political Turmoil in Mexico
Date: April 29, 2009 09:24AM

Mexico was already struggling with a drug war in its streets before the Swine Flu hit. I heard this morning that Mexico has three primary sources of revenue...oil, tourism and payments from Mexicans living in the U.S. Oil revenues are already down by half and payments from the U.S. have dropped as well. Now some analysts are saying that tourism revenue could be down as much as 80 percent because of Swine Flu.

What are the odds that Mexico will become a destabilized "failed state" on our southern border?

The government and police force are next to powerless against the drug cartels to begin with. If the flu spreads across the entire country, who do you think will have more money to provide masks/vaccines/whatever for the citizens; the government who can't afford shit in the first place, or the drug cartels that sleep on beds made out of money?

Can you imagine a humanitarian/refugee crisis, with millions of sick Mexicans swarming across the border into the U.S.? It wouldn't take much to get there.

First death in US was Mexican seeking treatment. Sad for the baby, but we cannot afford this shit! Close the border just to stop the rush to our hospitals.

I can't find the article to attach, but apparently Mexico is not providing the sick with any medication and in fact the sick can't get to or into the hospital. The workers don't want them there. Shocker.

Seriously, how do we close the border? As someone astutely noted, erecting a 10ft fence would insure the success of 12ft ladder manufacturers.

Right now with regulated border crossings we have a chance of catching sick people as they cross the border. If we close the crossings, all you will do is create a surge of people - possibly sick - crossing illegally.

Self preservation is a priority. If they want to get across, they'll get across hell or highwater, regulated or not.

When you guys and girls read that does any one feel we should go through and take over. Create 5-ish new states (territories first).

Also sounds like the making of the NAU (North American Union). Keep an eye out there.

I've been saying that we should absorb Mexico for years. Quite frankly, I believe the majority of the population would welcome it.

The US has been keeping Mexico going for the last 30 years. Immigration problem, swine flu problem and drug cartel problems all solved in the first 2 years. The border between Mexico and Guatemala is much smaller and easier to control. Most of Mexico (especially the coastlines) should be major tourist attractions and builders could make a fortune and put most of the population to work immediately. They have tons of resources, but no functional government or police force.

It would be a no-lose situation for both the US and Mexico. Mexico could even keep it's name, only now it would be a US state.

It'll never happen...that would make the US a multilingual country. Rednecks here wouldnt tolerate that.

Rednecks are the least of our worries when we have anti-Semite, anti-Israeli extremists that post in Fairfax forums.

Mexi-can president cries "discrimi nacion" when Chinese autority quarantined dozens of Mexicans in a Hong Kong hotel. A jumbo jet was sent by their gov't to
fly them home.

It's racism, I don't remember Chinese nationals singled out during Sars.

Columbus NM is just one of possibly many small border towns more than happy to "accept" illegal crossers who can keep their towns afloat during this recession. It's a win-win all around. The best part, is these illegals are the perfect candidates for Obama's Immigration "Free Pass" program.

Because they are successful entrepreneurs (drug and human trafficking) they are able to make large cash investments, patronize businesses and pay taxes.

Because they own the police, they have no criminal history

Their "connections" allow them to buy tax records to "prove" they have been in the country for the specified period of time and paid taxes during that time (the likelihood of IRS or SSA verifying any of these records are slim to nil)

Speaking and reading English is "job requirement."

And any fine they may have to pay is "pocket change."
