Op's post is accurate , the NPS does discriminate against people who are not sailors in the heavily populated Washington DC area where there is very limited access to the waters of the Potomac River, a national river called the Nations River by National Geographic Society , a river the people of the United States went to great trouble and considerable expense to clean up that was an effort by all Americans , not just the sailors using the NPS Washington Sailing Marina
The class discrimination by the NPS against car roof craft paddlers and small power boaters leaves this larger group of people unable to enjoy the river as well as the much small class of sailors
It must be stopped at once and all boaters of all classes must be allowed fair equal use of the public marina at WSM with the help of all who wish to support the people not just a handful of sailors , the assistance of BLM and Antifa to right this wrong is greatly appreciated as well as all interested civil rights organizations and attorneys to file a class action against the NPS in the Eastern District of Virginia's Alexandria federal courthouse with the American people as the plaintiffs.
I submit for any future discovery the October 1976 National Geographic magazine as exhibit 1 for the people, with the article "The Nations River" Not The WSM river or the NPS river to exclude paddlers and small power boaters from equal access .
A highlight of this issue in the "Nations River" story is about an older black couple in their 80's much still in love who tended 50 acres down the river towards the bay , they lived without much money but their story is one of personal strength self sufficiency pride and love. It has been years since I read this article but it still inspires me today to seek equality in all we do as the American people with regard to our federal state and local government.
The NPS is wrong the public WSM must be an equal public access marina for all Americans not just sailors
