Old Mower Still Going

My 16 year old just keeps going. It slipped the drive belt last week and I thought about dropping 500 bucks on a new jap mower or one of those battery jobs. In the end I do what I always do - fixed it. I tipped it on its side took the engine off, reseated the belt then good as new. I change the oil, blade, plug and air filter every season. I had to replace the plastic drive wheels last year. For $350 purchase back in 2003 its been money well spent. Still runs and cuts great. Best mulcher Ive seen - I never rake leaves just grind them to powder in the fall.

You young folks crack me up. A mower from 2003 is like brand new to me I have a Montgomery Ward lawn mower that I bought new in 1988 still going strong and I inherited my Dads Sears snowblower that he bought in 1967 that still works great. Good maintenance is key to gasoline powered equipment. Using ethanol free gas with sta-bil mixed in is important too. Treat it right and your mower can go another 20 years at least.

My husqvarna automower runs everyday and I have lawn service one a week for the full cut and clean up.

Keeps the grass cropped down to a nice 2 in ch height. Eats and leaves and garbae, too!

The belt is for the self propelled feature. You usually can get 5 years or so out of the belt. My old Monkey Wards mower is not self propelled so it never needs a belt.

I've personally never been this lucky with a lawnmower, I think the longest I had one working was one entire summer, and they would all just drop dead, unfixable, or at least I couldn't manage to fix them myself. Don't wanna think about how much money I spent on all those shenanigans. My wife kept saying that there are companies out there that do this kind of gardening work and that it would be cheaper for us and less stressful to hire one for us. I kept going my way for like 3 lawnmowers and then went her way. We use the services of https://lawn.com.au/ and honestly good choice, should have listened to her sooner.
