I agree, it was a black judge but I think she was scared of the international media making SA look even more dangerous than it is or like a place whitey can't get a fair shake.
I woulda gave him 10 yrs inside minimum, even though it was probably not premeditated.

From what I've heard of the guy, he sounded like a hot tempered loose cannon. But if he was planning on offing his girl, he probably could have easily made her disappear for a few thousand (great value exchange rate in SA I'm sure) and never had to sweat the bullets of the past year.
I think he meant to intimidate her and the "burglar" story was all BS. I can't imagine he was dumb enough to think this was a good way of committing murder and getting away with it.
