Because the 18 year old that just bought a decade old Civic knows so much more about suspensions and vehicle dynamics than the engineers that designed the cars.

It supposed to improve grip when cornering, but in reality it does nothing for a street car, other than ruin braking ability and tread wear. It is only popular among the crowd that thinks adding decals to your Civic makes it go faster.

Oh hell yes they do.
You only get that wheel pointing inward at the top by cutting the springs.
Not one commerically made product does that.
ONLY DIY - do it yourself jerks do that.
By doing that you increase the pressure inside the shocks thus cutting the lifespan of those shocks in half or less.
One teen in my neighborhood did that and they lasted only 6 months.

There is one other way. Old school stuff. Heat the springs with a torch until at the height you're looking for.
Of course, it was stupid when it was old school too.
Pro Auto on Draper used it as their primary lowering technique for years.
