I have consigned myself to the fact that I will be poor and homeless in 20 years

I’m 34, and live with my parents. I’m not lazy, but I can’t seem to get on my own feet. I have a job and make 50k a year. I try to take initiative and get better jobs, but no one hires me when I apply for jobs that pay over $100k. I don’t have the aptitude or the mock for anything that pays over that. That’s what it seems like you need to make to subsist in this area. I want more for myself, but don’t know how to get it. I fro need a life coach or something to figure it all out.

We should be concerned about anyone who wants actual help to improve their lives. That’s my one big gripe with fairfax underground. Not enough empathy for others on here.

For one year and put it all on the Redskins winning the Super Bowl. You’re welcome buddy, now turn that frown upside and get your Mom to make you a Hot Pocket.

I've always felt that way. Refreshing to see I'm not the only one here carrying on the good fight. If you can help just one person here, makes the whole thing worth it. I always say that.

The problem is weeding out those who actually want to change to those who are just wasting time. I’m skeptical that if Meade Skelton made a cry for help, he’d follow through on the advice given.

“Move” less expensive isn’t a solution. People live where there’s jobs.

Meade's an actor, I wouldn't take what he says as fact or reality. He also has one hell of an overactive imagination. He knows when to play the fool, minstrel boy or the professor. Like a said 'an actor' a pretender.

Stop being a pussy! Do your parents charge you rent? 50k for a fuck up like you is ok. You probably eat out three times a day wast your money on alcohol, weed and cigarettes. Just save your money and remember what you do today affects your future.

You speak of what you don’t know. I’m from the middle of nowhere PA. You can buy a 3 bedroom home for $70k, but you there are few jobs that will pay you more than $30k. Drugs are a problem, little to no infrastructure and absolutely no form of leisure, outside of shooting up or playing cards. It’s why people move to cities and the burbs. Teleworking is changing this, but not by much.

Get a county job. Just keep applying over and over until you get one. I work for the county and only make 60k a year but the health insurance is only 10 dollars a month and I get 8 weeks off with pay a year (including holidays). I do between 1 and 2 hours of actual work a day and lunch break is from 11 to 1. I have a decent pension coming in addition to social security so retirement will be sweet. I just have to work 3 more years. Good luck!

You make $50k, you live in your parent's basement and you want to get ahead. How about saving and investing every dollar you make.
Many people with very good incomes end up pissing their money away. They wake up one day in their mid forties and realize they cannot afford to send their kids to college, even if their kids go in state, and they won't have their mortgages paid off until they are 70. If it was not for their 401ks they would be looking at eking out a meager retirement living on social security. The reason most people with incomes your level end up broke is because their living expenses exceed their income. You don't have that problem. On an income of $50k you ought to be able to put away $25k per year and still have enough cash for some fun. In five years of saving at that rate, given reasonable investment returns, you should have over $150k.
