Just Go My Sales Commission! Lexus or BMW?

I'm using this new check to put a down payment on a second car. Should I get a Lexus or BMW?

I like the BMW look better but LEXUS has better ratings?

Not sure what is meant by this. I got my check and I have the money to buy now. I spent a lot time to close the deals and now I'm enjoying the check with a new car.

No different than anybody else.

You are just buying a penis extension. I'm not saying they are not nice cars. If you are going to throw that much money at a depreciating asset though you should do it because it's WHAT YOU REALLY WANT. It sounds as though the only reason you are considering these is because you think it will impress someone.

If you want a real car, try looking at Infiniti. No other luxury brand gives you more bang for the buck. I saw a guy with a bone stock G37 sedan do 0-60 in 4.85 seconds. That's from a naturally aspirated V6 with just 330 hp.

BMW, Lexus, Audi all run close to $10k more for the same performance and options. If you notice, none of them include Infiniti in their commercials for comparison. Why? Because Infiniti out-performs all of them for less money.

I'll check out the Infinity's. Somebody else mentioned a Nissan GT-R but they look a little pricey. I've got plenty from the commission check so price may not be a problem.

The GT-R is a great car. Lots of power and one of the fastest on the road. The Infiniti line is coming out with the Q50 Eau Rogue. That has the GT-R engine in a 4-door Q50. Look it up. It will probably be in the $120k range though.

If you want a coupe, go with the Q50. If you want a sedan, go with the Q50 sedan (G37 replacement) or larger Q70 (M56 replacement).

Leasing is for people who can't otherwise afford to buy new, especially in the luxury segment. There a stigma attached to it that you are cash poor and are doing it just to impress others.

There used to be an exception if you owned a business, used your vehicle for strictly business purposes and then take a substantial write-off. But, even then, the higher income exclusion and audit risk takes away any marginal benefits because the leasing party can never justify that they aren't using the vehicle to take their kids to soccer games, vacations, the mall and other blatant personal use. The IRS has been cracking down on this in the past 5 years employing anti-fraud investigators.

I've seen a ton of Maserati's around. There must be a new dealership or some company handing them out to exec's.

Maserati's seem like they would be a fortune to get worked on.

According to Edmunds.com, average down payment on a car is 11%. That's fucking pathetic and irresponsible. Minimum down payment of 50% should be mandatory. Too many impatient assholes buying shit they can't afford.

Doesn't work that way. There's no problem using a car leased for business use partially for personal purposes. You can only deduct what you use for business purposes. That is, if you use the car 80% business and 20% personal, then when you calculate the expense, you can deduct 80% of the cost. Nothing shady at all about it. As long as you have records to support your use, it's perfectly fine.

What changed the calculation more was the ability to expense the full cost of a vehicle in more recent years versus having to depreciate it over years.

If you like new cars every 3 years, leasing is the cheapest option. With luxury cars at least.

With the rates that some had in recent years, it made a lot of sense not to put much money down. I'll take free money at 0% interest.

But you're right beyond that. Most people putting no money in are doing so because they can't afford it and are going to end up way underwater in a year.

You still have to meet credit rating standards with 11%. If you always pay your bills on time I see no reason 11% isn't reasonable with a descent credit score.

Walk into a dealership to buy a car, and their finance people will bend over backwards to try and find a way to finance it. If you are looking to restore financial discipline, go after the people financing the deals, not the people buying the cars.

Paying your bills on time doesn't make a small down payment a good idea.

But you'll always have a car payment. If you are ever out of work for an extended period of time, you have no choice but to take the bus or ride a bike if your lease term is up and you are a cash poor loser.

This is why you see so many young ghetto trash riding around in expensive luxury automobiles.

I work for a defense company in NoVA. Wars are great money makers. My commission check was $27,000. That's above my $90,000 salary. That's just one of twenty some checks this year SO far.

I plan to use $20,000 to put a down payment on a sweet ride and then blow the $7,000 on whatever, bar drinks, some fancy clothing, maybe a vacation to the Bahamas etc...

I really didn't even do much to get the commission. A lower sales rep got the sale but it's in my division under me so I get a cut.

I have a pickup truck and a SUV that are paid off, the money part is really not a problem, I know a lot of other well off people who lease as well. Houses are all paid off too. Once I retire I will probably stop since my income won't be the same. The depreciation on luxury cars is a nuts. Trying to sell an expensive luxury car on craigslist is no fun job either, so you end up getting even further stiffed by a dealership or carmax. Which is why I have one leased car.

I don't like the leasing options. I'd rather do a large down payment and then get a low rate 1%-2% loan for the rest. Some dealers will even do 0% if you have good credit. If can get that no brainer.

Now you do sound cash poor. Take that check and buy a used car outright, no car payments on it ever.

I like the real leather seats better on the Lexus.
