Can You Be Fired or Demoted For Respectfully Condemning Violence In The Workplace?

They held a closed door meeting and put a person into my job with less than 2 years experience without citing any job performance metrics.

They did not interview any of the numerous other highly qualified candidates with more experience and tenure.

Does that sound legal or fair?
