as usual Tucker’s comments make no sense at all... the French came up with the metric system so they could standardize trade. prior to that different parts of the country were all using their own hodgepodge of measurement units and it made doing business real difficult. sure they could’ve switched to imperial units used by the english crown, but since they just overthrew their own monarch, were in constant armed conflict with the english, and the fact that imperial units were their own mess anyway, they had academics come up with a standardized system based on things that wouldn’t change and anyone could measure. i’m not sure why tucker thinks trying to standardize trade is ‘creepy’ and i’m not sure what he thinks Robespierre had to do with it either other than rising to power during that period of history. it’d be like calling the internet “a Nixonian plot” or something idiotic like that.

Metric is boring and mundane. If you like that sort of measurement system, use it. None of the measurements are particularly natural. So Tucker is right in that sense.

I think it was a brilliant solution to a problem, especially for its time, but i should’ve mentioned that I don’t see the need to change everything here to it. It’s already widely used here for the important stuff anyway.

What? A BS in mechanical engineering doesn't make him a fucking scientist. That's why he should no longer claim to be one. A PhD is a doctorate and, thus, the honorific of Dr. A degree in mechanical engineering is not scientific any more than a degree in computer programming is. Bill Nye is a science popularizer, and doesn't claim to be a scientist. I scientist does research and publishes results in peer reviewed journals. Nobody gets their scientific advice from Nye. It's entertainment and information for the masses, nothing else. It's "Bill Nye the Science Guy", not "Bill Nye the Scientist".

Technology is the byproduct of Science. Engineering is working with technology. Without an understanding of science and the scientific method, a person would not be an engineer.

I took one look at how much math and science I had to take as part of a mechanical engineering degree and decided to become a business major.

Yea, what country would ever base anything on the decimal system. Its just too confusing. Also Im baking a cake can someone tell me how many tablespoons in 4 and 1/3 cups of flour? Can you do that quickly with out a calculator?
