farts smell because they are a gas. the mask isn't intended to stop you from inhaling gasses (duh), it's to help block droplets liquid that you exhale. just like your pants block the droplets of liquid expelled by your ass when you fart. otherwise you'd be creating some real havoc among your family and friends everytime you cut one loose.

I love the smell of my farts. When I’m alone I take my pants off and fart into my hand and then smell it. The aroma is wonderful and the act gives me an erection. I know I’m not the only one who does this either

Alan Dershowitz should have taken the victory lap and retired years ago. He now is known for embracing legal positions in a pathetic attempt to remain relevant. Despite this he still sometimes manages to get things correct.

If you choose to remain on your own property and not let others onto the property then your rights are at a maximum. When you choose to leave your property and interact with others or when you invite others onto your property, then your rights get balanced against theirs. You may not care whether you catch some potentially fatal disease, but that doesn't give you the right to be the means of spreading that disease to others. Even the founding fathers had no problem with quarantining infected people or people who had contact with infected people, or with shutting down business activities to prevent the spread of disease. George Washington had his soldiers inoculated for smallpox.
